As a Rockets HC now he would:

    1. cut Kevin Porter Jr,
    2. bench all of the draft picks except Jabari and Eason on a limited rotation
    3. start Montrezl Harrell - Lamarcus Aldridge - Udonis Haslem - Eric Gordon - Eric Bledsoe

(I like JVG for the record, but he would need to show significant evolution for today's NBA)

I'm actually fine with Silas for now. Expect we will see more from him as time goes by.

Love JVG, but he is the anti-rebuild. If we were to sign him we might as well follow the D-rock roadmap:

    Simmons
    Thybuille
    JJ
    Jabari
    Insert defense only center (Gobert?)

Just kidding D-rock. JVG is a crappy offensive coach and is the anti-rookie coach of all time. If Hollins is the real deal at defense, we are set up pretty good with our current staff. I think we would be ideal with Dantoni and Hollins (asst. head coach defense), but that ship has sailed.

Do not need Simmons AND Thybulle.

And would never start Simmons with Thybulle.

D'Antoni and Hollins would have been interesting.

I really think you are pretty good at basketball analysis, just can’t resist getting a dig in on the Simmons love fest from a few months ago. You were one of the first on the Eason train and you were 100% correct on that. I wouldn’t mind Thybuille as a defensive specialist off the bench and if he could develop any offense (unlikely) he would be an all-star. I don’t buy the Silas is an offensive genius stuff, but I’m willing to give him a chance for this upcoming year. If he can’t put together a decent offense with this group he is not an NBA coach. I’m convinced he is a terrible defensive coach so if we keep him we have to find a defensive coach. Hope Hollins is that guy.

i think we're pretty much done with the rebuild... we got Green and Jabari as our 'cornerstones' - and a host of young talent with potential (JC, Alp, Tari, etc...)
It's time to start laying the foundational work ethic going forward... culture building - pushing guys - accountability....
I think signing the assistants they did was a really good move...
Even pushing guys, i think we're still a lottery team next year due to inexperience and holes in the roster..
We should be running guys 'all out' this year!
Then next off season either we get lucky in the lotto - or put some other pieces w our pick to move up and grab 1 more nice piece... fill our holes and make a push for some playoff experience...

but this frame of mind that we need to assemble all the pieces before we start instilling a culture of hustle and accountability and pushing for the win, is just wrong... by then guys have a year or two of not having those expectations...

i think Silas is a nice guy... a decent enough coach but idk about hc... its time to bring in the authoritarian who aint gonna coddle guys... and the reason i'm so enamored with JVG is that he is the authoritarian type - but his players most often seemed to love and respect him... thats a fine line to walk...

Don't really want JVG as a head coach, but would prefer him as a defensive coordinator or just have him coach the G League if he wanted a lighter schedule.

Stupidity itself seems to be rampant through many of the teams fans. Fortunately the management and coach like
our starting Point Guard and will keep him on the Team. Yetti

I'll never forget seeing him do that. Jeff's crazy! He danced around some of those questions, but Van Gundy, as @chenjy9 said, has really embraced Houston as his home. I'm not sure how he'd do as coach of a young team like Houston, but I know I'd enjoy watching him coach the Rockets, for the interviews, for seeing him interact with our players, yelling at the refs. It would be a trip. I could end up cussing JVG half the time, but maybe not. I really like the guy.

Agree with everything you said except JVG. He is a dinosaur as a head coach.

What exactly was the stupid part?

    Please enlighten me.

Oh wait. Being concerned a guy who is clearly a clown is going to disrupt the mindset of the young core and ultimately be a hinderance of this team is stupid.

There's definitely some correlation between posters who end their posts with their username, and not being very adept at this basketball IQ thing.

JVG is my favorite coach of all time. His players almost universally love him, he has a defensive focus (which to me gives a competitive advantage). He is not opposed to analytics. He appreciates both the post game and shooting. His biggest downside is that he rides his best players, but part of that was having a shallow bench. Since Jabari is like a super-Battier, it seems like he would be a great fit.

As an aside, there has never been a better line by a head coach than when V-SPAN said he was the McGrady of Europe and Jeff said we have the McGrady of America.

U clearly lack patience and giving second chances.

The way u treat KPJ cause of his past behavior is similar in same way folks treat ex-convicts trying to change. The past does should not always define the present

KPJ could have played solid next year and u still b urging us to cut his ass cause of your bias.

Im not surprised with your attitude towards KPJ, coming from the same poster who shat on green even b4 he got a chance to shine.

JVG more a late phase 2 or phase 3 coach gunning for chips with tested players.

But everytime he shows up on interviews boosting Houston I'm like...Jeff!! You beautiful bald b*stard!!!

Man didn't even badmouth Harden with all those landmines lying around.

    Mad respect.

For sure. One of my fraternity brothers is from Houston and his Mom went to church with JVG. She said he's a really nice guy
