When they turn search back on, somebody's going to have a good time searching for the old post where you said you were officially through with the Rockets when Rudy left 3 years ago.
Strange that JVG would say that Yao is his own toughest critic, but still finds the need to publically call out his effort. Actually, not strange, idiotic.
Relax. There's been no bigger Yao supporter than JVG. That's been the case since Day 1. JVG has pumped up Yao quite publically, even during the lean times. As another poster mentioned, it sounds like his comments were in the context of, "Yao's playing great offensively, but..." Which is fair. I didn't see the comments. Which I had. But I seriously doubt that JVG was "ripping into" Yao. This is likely much ado about nothing. I'm still on the JVG band-wagon. (Even if it's just me and Almu.) Judge him by how the team plays with Yao and T-Mac. Which is pretty damn good. Don't judge him by how the team plays with Yao and a bunch of scrubs.
I don't really see what everyone is so enraged about. Yao has clearly not had the same defensive intensity these last few games. I even commented to my friend during the game that Yao is basically half assing it on D. Do I blame him? Not really. the man only has so much energy to expend out there. But, I don't blame Gundy for trying to keep Yao on his toes. Also, has anyone else noticed that since Yao has gotten to the 10 rpg benchmark, he has basically only been pulling down 10 per game. He has proven that he can pull down more, but has not been pulling them down with as much vigor. He was absolutely great tonight in the first half. He was ripping the ball away from guys. But the second half, he was nonexistant on the boards. I don't have a problem with JVG saying it. Yao's a big boy. He's not going to demand a trade any time soon.
agreed. a healthy t-mac would would make this team a 50 game winner, but I think they would win 50 in spite of JVG. he's a great defensive coach, and I know the cliche that defense wins championships. but defense doesn't get it done if there's zero offense being played. you can't sell out your shooters for guys that are tough and seem to fit the JVG system.
It will be funny if Yao "grows up" enough and kicks JVG's butt right out of the door - one day. If JVG doesn't quit before that happens, of course. I'll pay top dollar to see that.
What exactly did he say? This is the only thing resembling an actual quote in this 4 page thread and it doesn't sound like he's dissing Yao at all.
Would you rather have him half assing it on D and scoring 30+ or fouling out in 3 quarters and scoring 15? If TMac was healthy, then I would say the second one. Without TMac though, let's get real.
I've never so many pathetic, weak, phoney kind of fans than the ones in this thread and in the game thread tonight. I've been sitting back reading and saying are these people serious. I love it when things get tough because i can sit back and see right through every last one of them.
Yao hasn't played well on defense in the last few games. That is a fact. However, I think the main reason for that is because Yao had to carry the entire offense on his shoulders since no one else on this team has the slightest resemblance of an offensive game. JVG is doing what he has to do to get the most out of Yao. At this point that is all he can do to save his job because no one else on this team is any good (thanks to Jeff's hand-picked "defensive-minded" roster).
he just basically said Yao needs to work harder on the defensive end and he hasn't been doing that for the past 3 games, he only got one rebound in the second half, he's been great offensively but needs to step it up defensively not really a rip..some reporter must have asked something like: What do you think of Yao's performance? or something to that degree NBATV didn't show the question
I'm going to judge him with Yao and bunch of scrubs. Portland has a bunch of scrubs yet they have managed to win 20 games. I could win with TMAC and Yao.
i wish i hadn't deleted it off the dvr but it was during the press conference after the game on fox sports. it wasn't a big deal at all and he certainly never said "zero effort" which has been repeated alot in this thread. if van gundy doesn't say yao is the best player in the nba after every game he's apparently not doing his job.
Go fish somewhere else Sam the Fisher. I have always and will always be a Houston Rockets fan. So fish somewhere else for yor BS.
