I never thought I would say it, but yeah. Let's bring back Rudy. I've always been pro-JVG but this is ridiculous.
Man, I got flammed for starting a thread like this 2 days ago. Was even called a YOF. How things have changed.
JVG is teaching Yao a valuable lesson that every aspiring franchise player must learn: When to ignore your coach. Yao is starting to recognize, as Shaq has with PJ, that chasing guards at the three point line is not the best use of his energy, regardless of how much his coach protests.
right now, I'm a YOF. IOt's the only reason I have to wtach this team these days. Franchise carried me for a while, now it's Yao's turn.
UNBELIEVABLE how sensitive you people are. f@#king ridiculous. even though what he said wasn't anywhere close to being harsh or unfair, i knew i'd see a thread on it somewhere. most of you have no idea what exactly it was he said. van gundy twice mentioned how great he has been on offense but that he would like to see him play better on defense. mentioned his one rebound in the second half and that he hasn't been as effective defensively in the last few games. unfortunately he didn't cuddle yao and tuck him in before bed time so that we can all know how much he loves him. gimme a break.
I am officially through with this joker. Yao Ming is without a doubt the hardest working guy on the team and JVG has the nerve to call a timeout to b**** at him. What a joke. I am not saying don't coach the man but Yao is playing the smartest basketball on the team and is constantly working on both the offensive and defensive end more than anyone else. Yes that's right it's not Bowen or Juwan he plays harder and smarter it's Yao. JVG is an idiot. You'll never see him b**** at Tmac and yet Yao run's circles around McGrady when it comes to work Ethic and hustle. He needs to call a timeout and b**** slap himself. I hate this clown, Van Dummy.
If he's going to find fault in Yao's D after that performance, he can go to hell. I've been a JVG defender since day 1 but he's just obviously taking a page out of Larry Brown's book and is playing mental games w/ Yao. And he's stupid if that's what it is. "Oh i'm trying to light a fire under him" Whatever. He wants Yao to guard all 5 guys at once. It's not his job to mask his teammates deficiencies. JVG needs to get off his high horse because the act is getting pretty thin.
BTW Jeff, are you ripping Yao's D because he's not spending as much time covering the opposing guards? So you blaming Yao for the Nets and Mavs shooting the lights out from 20 feet out? That shouldn't be his job in the first polkace, you had CD get all these no offense, Defense minded guys, why don't you teach them to cover the wide oipen shooters out there?
Plus Yao already got 12rebs. I think he could have grabbed more but considering the energy he spent battling 2-3 ppl in the post all night and received almost zero help from others, he didn't deserve the BS Van Grumpy threw at him! Van Grumpy need more rebounds? Ask the great hustle player, your beloved Juwon Howard for that!
Van Gundy really said that? Is he nuts?? What's Yao supposed to do, win the game by himself? One against 5? Hell, the rest of the team can't make a shot to save their lives, Yao's had 3 guys draped on him because of that, he's scoring 30+ points per game and 10+ rebounds, still intimidating the other team and altering shots like crazy. What the hell is he supposed to do? Maybe he should coach as well. Yao's doing everything else now.
Arent you the same guy who made a bet against the Rockets making the playoffs last year and we ended up winning 51 games? By the way what was the bet for i forgot.
I am not sure if this is working. Berating players constantly in Public is hardly motivational- sure do what you need to behind closed doors. Why blabber and b**** every friggin chance you get. I am getting a little bit uncomfortable with Coach Gundy.
Criticisim of Yao is not a valid reason to fire him. But the inability to put together a system that fits the players' strengths and to motivate your players to perform optimally are valid reasons. I still remember the Game 7 loss to Dallas last year. Mark my words, this team will never go far with Van Gundy at the helm. Fire him and fire him before the end of the season. Waiting for Tracy to come back and make us a 50-win team next season will be a major mistake, because we will be doomed to years of early playoff exits.
Yao's been bringing it every nigth since the All Star break, he's the last person in the world that needs any kind of motivation
If the player was Shaq instead of Yao- gundy will be on the beach house next day contemplating about life in general! Let us not push our luck with this increasingle strange of motivating people.
what good is Yao if he gets into foul trouble being too aggressive on the defensive end? Supid a*s Van Gundy doens't realize that Yao needs to be on the court so that we could actually get 80 points a game. Imagine Yao only playing 25 minutes because of foul trouble. The Rockets won't even get to 65 points, I guarantee it. And truthfully, I don't think Yao is laying it down defensively anyways. He had 4 blocks in the Minn game, 5 blocks in the Pacer game, and I know that if you get blocks, that means your playing defense. I don't care if Van Gundy is doing this to push Yao. As far as i'm concerned, if he's not yelling out anybody elses name, he's pushing Yao under the bus.
