That's r****ded. Now you're blaming JVG for getting his players to work hard? What's he supposed to do, give McGrady a free pass to loaf on defense because of his back problems?

It seems to me that you're just grasping for straws trying to find reasons to blame JVG for this horrendous season.

I think that at the end of Van Gundy's Knick tenure, when he was getting burned out, he started turning on his players in public (someone who lived in NYC can confirm or refute this). He clearly has started doing that over the past month, and I wouldn't be surprised if he and the team mutually pull the plug soon. Most of the Rockets are playing crappy, but he not only coaches them but also chose them...plus, it is counterproductive in the end to try to motivate players via the public call-out.

Yao plays hard D, 2 fouls early. Nice job, JVG.

20 points, 5 personal fouls. I hate it when I'm right

Only a moron -- or a lizard-hearted exploiter willing to sacrifice tomorrow in order to save his job today -- would whip a player to greater effort even though said player was not entirely recovered from a critical injury. It is even more offensive to attack that player in public after getting a 25/7/4 game (on 45% shooting) from him.

Aside from the unfairness of it, JVG should have known that the potential for reinjury was extremely high in T-Mac's case -- heck, I had been predicting it right here on this BBS -- but he attacked McGrady anyway. As a result of the coach's pushiness, we are almost certainly going to miss the playoffs. If JVG is fired this summer, he will have gotten what he deserved.

Yeah, I had a feeling that would happen too.
