Damn this guy love defense. And he has less confidence against the Lakers than Yao does.

Oh, someone definitely has to go this summer. Who didn't buy in his system?

maybe jvg's doing things differently this time around? he never rested his players in the last couple of regular season games like he did with steve and cat. praising the opposition that's just playing it from the underdog angle. if he couldn't win a championship with the knicks then well the forumla for success wasn't right...

Curious . . .this is the most EXPANSIVE INTERVIEW I've heard from Van Gundy

His Interviews on Houston Radio is FAR MORE Terse and Adversarial

Perhaps Almu can verify but I believe the person (and radio station) doing the interview have a very long and trusting history with JVG. IIRC, Almu posted a similar interview around the time the Rockets played the Knicks in NYC this past season and Van Gundy's tone was very similar.

    perhaps
    but . . from what I've heard on 610 . . . . I doubt JVG will ever
get history with those guys [yea they are some jerks but . . . . ]

but one would think he would be more open . . . .. or at least
    try to be a bit

Yea. The interviewer and Gundy do have a pretty close relationship.

One thing that I didn't like from Gundy is the acknowledgement that the Rockets did play pretty well against the Lakers and in my personal opinion, the Rockets can beat the Lakers in 6 if they play the way Gundy and the rest of us have seen them play. Especially during the 5 or 6 game streak they had in January, I believe.

JVG is the man...He shouldn't and won't accept anything less than the best and the guys just need to jump on board and win...

Nap. He was nothing then, and his future depended on those players. But it's different now, he is a "proven" coach in the league with a "reputation"!:D

If you guys think JVG is passive, you are wrong. Here is the strategy: He praised the lakers publicly and curse them privatly. In this way, the Fakers won't get agitated and play extremely hard.

Why is . . .when we win . . IT IS THE JVG WAY
when we don't .. . we just blame Steve

As I stated at the beginning of the year
JVG set up the situation that no matter what . . . he comes off
    smelling like a rose. . . .

Steve gets all the blame. . . NO MATTER WHAT HE DOES
    and
JVG gets all the praise. . NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES OUT HE WASTE
er . . . .NO MATTER WHAT HE DOES

Considering JVG defends Steve's play more than I think he should, I don't know where you're pulling you're conspiracy theories from. And where did Almu blame Steve in what you quoted? As for "we just blame Steve" - you have selective vision. Yao gets blasted as well.

    Chill out stu.

This is one of the best posts by far this year. Rockets set to play the team that makes the Networks salivate, and JVG is on a homeboy frequency hangin out. Please post other depth interviews with coach. This is amazing, to hear his takes on the game. I think I like him even a llot more now. This is the kinda guy I would want to play for(in my dreams of course!) wouldn't you?

and one thing for sure I know, Hakeem never complained about being "tired", ( even when he was )

Nice that he can still make time to do interviews in NYC even though he can't manage it for stations in Houston. I mean, it's not like the team is IN Houston or anything.

    Thanks for the link, though.

JVG may be a great X and O coach, but he will never be a great inspirational coach like Rudy or Phil Jackson. Seems like he have nothing good to say about his own team while kissing everyother teams' ass.

The Rockets have a problem with over-cofidence. Good to see Van Gundy is trying to take them down a peg, not like Rudy with his constant "I'm just so proud of my guys" mantra...

Not trying to put down Rudy, I just think Van Gundy is better for these young guys.

    Jeff,

With all due respect, do you have inside knowledge that he declined interviews with Houston radio stations? It's obvious he has a friendship with this NYC station, as they've interviewed him during the season as well. But I don't think it's fair to say what you did without prior knowledge that he declines Houston radio interviews.
