Housing is even cheaper here in Oklahoma but there are two drawbacks. First you'd be living in Oklahoma  , second while the weather is changing every 5 minutes a few tornadoes tend to pop up and knock those cheap houses down :( The good news, after they blow through you can usually upgrade to a nicer house in that area pretty cheap :D

I grew up in Houston, and lived in NYC for nearly 10 years. NYC has far worse summers than Houston. The humidity is nearly as bad, streets smell of urine, and garbage. Because of parking, and/or the subway you are pretty much forced out into the hot humidity for a prolonged period. Then many of the buildings are older and don't have AC.

Waiting for a train in completely still, hot, humid air is just plain miserable. It is not uncommon to leave for work, and arrive covered in sweat.

Houston heat and humidity is bad, but you are usually either inside an airconditioned house, car, or business. If not that then you are on your way to one of many swimming opportunities.

In NYC you are almost always exposed to the heat and humidity with little to know chance to get to a clean refreshing swimming pool, beach, lake, river, etc.

I would rather spend a summer in Houston than NYC anyday.

Fall and Spring in NY are some of the most perfect weather anywhere. It was truly amazing.

I'll take the 3 months of brutal heat over the three months of snow, gray skies and freezing weather any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

They all say it... along with "_______________ has the worst traffic on the planet!!!"

I swear there are people in Paris, Tx. b****ing about the traffic. :D

Ditto. 12 months of beach weather vs 6 months of sweaters?

And it has been an incredibly unusually dry summer. 30% humidity? I'll take it.

pretty much agree with everything you said. however, houston's summers are looooooooong. at least in ny they're shorter, and though i don't love blizzards or any other type of severe weather, it is nice to have four seasons. it makes the nice days more precious. that being said, we've had a pretty good summer so far, but end of july and august will be predictably brutal. oh wait, i'll be in southern california on vacation. :)

Say it with me " I wore shorts to Christmas dinner"

Our summers sem unbearable when we are in the midst of them but our winters are sweet. Show some place the weather is nice year round and I'll show a place that is overcrowded and expensive. Also Houston is the most airconditioned place on the planet, other than playing golf I usually don't go more than 100 yards without being in airconditioning for three months a year.

Come on now guys, let's not derail the man's thread.

Anyway, I heard JVG say he thought EDC and Blatz were lovers.

    Just passing that on.

Absolutely -- but I think Houston really does have some of the worst traffic anywhere ever. Here up in Pittsburgh, as long as they're not working on the road (in which case they often just stop traffic until they finish), it's not nearly as bad.

    Are you kidding??

We don't deal with it either.

We step from our air-conditioned, 68-degree vehicles, hurry into our air-conditioned, 68-degree offices, rush out to lunch at an air-conditioned restaurant, go back to work in the sweet cool air at the office, drive back home in cool comfort, and spend the rest of the evening either at the cool home or out somewhere air-conditioned.

We may as well live on the moon.. hehehe

However, you want to see panic? Watch what happens when the AC goes out at any of those links in the cool-air chain.

Heck, the ac went out at my house several years ago, and I seriously thought about home abandonment.. ;)

Believe me, those of us who live our lives here don't like the heat and humidity any better than anyone else. We just know better than to be out in it. LOL

He might have been talking about the weather, but he also might have been talking about the air pollution. Houston is positively the worst city for clean air in the entire country. Most Houstonians don't seem to mind what is a terrible public health issue.

I'm actually in the process of looking for a new city to move to in the next 5 years and I want to go somewhere I can walk a round of 18 holes or play soccer without passing out and isn't as expensive as San Francisco to buy a house.

    Any Suggestions?

And no thanks to Oklahoma or any state like it.

I do love the stros and the Rockets, but with satelite I believe I can pick up all the Houston sports teams wherever I move.

I have no clue what you are talking about.

If you want JVG to be comfortable, and JVG can "breathe" in New York, and the Knicks are a "special place," then he should be there. Last I checked, that gig was still open.

Personally, I could care less whether JVG is happy (using the term as loosely as possible, since the man is incapable of that emotion). I just want the Rockets to have a championship-caliber head coach.

To everybody b****ing about Houston weather...

This winter was extremely mild. It was great. And we even got a "fourth" season when in snowed Christmas eve.

Then we had possibely the best Spring I can ever remember. For a solid month, it was like 70 degrees w/ no humidity. In the north Mid-West, they had 7 inches of snow in May. I'd take Houston any day to that.

As summer goes, the humidity has been relatively low. So far, it's been a great year.

Houston humidity sucks sometimes but I don't think it is nearly as bad as everybody makes it out to be. In fact, I can't stand going up north sometimes because my lips crack after 3 days cause it is so darn dry.

I like the humidity. I have bad alergies and when it is humid my alergies aren't as bad. I also like it because when I work out my muscles warm up faster and can move better and when playing basketball I get better traction on the court and can grip the ball better. What I would hate is living in New York and being stuck in my house all winter because it is too cold and the winter is way too long.

I discovered I had eczema when I moved to LA from Houston. Going back and visiting Houston is a different thing. After 8 years in living one season climate, summertime houston is like putting on a sweatsuit and breathing it in as well.
