You're not going to win a championship JVG style. At least not in this era unless Yao goes crazy (unlikely). Detroit is probably as good a defensive team as there is plus they got more talent and they still will probably lose to Indiana, San Antonio, LA, and Sacramento. What do all those teams have in common?

are you saying SA is an offensive juggernaut?? how many ppg did they average this year???

    they're a defensive-oriented team, first and foremost.

sure you can. Once Yao wakes up and begins to play at a much higher level it'll work perfect. Dropping the ball down to Yao will be money, and then combine that with hard nosed defense and Houston will be one of the most feared teams.

91.5. They'd increased it to 97.5 during the playoff run.

So the Spurs averaged 91.5 pts/game this season and we averaged 89.8. Yeah, that 1.7 pts/game was obviously the difference between us and the Spurs.

well if it wasnt for jvg defense we would suck; so be happy. Our offense sucked last year to, it was inconsistent.

I don't see nothing wrong with the offense. It's all about carrying out the game plan and being mentally tough and trusting everyone. when that breaks down, what you see is what you get.

No, they're a Tim Duncan-oriented team. He's the reason they win. You can win JVG-style, or any style, if you have a Tim Duncan. The Rockets don't have one though.

They won *2* more games. I sincerely hope you're not attributing that to the coach. Their head coach also didn't miss the last 17 games. 'Better defense' doesn't matter. Their defense was good enough before. W/L matters.

JVG has never run a team with a good offense. Rudy T had a horrible offense with less offensive threats and had our team averaging more points. What happens when our personnel are destroyed with the offense still running horrible and we are back in the lottery watching our past stars tear it up in the play-offs with better coaching?
JVG has had one good post season where he took the 8th seed Knicks through the Jordan-less East and got swept by the Spurs. (note: that team had NO offense, just a bunch of defensive players.)

no..i'm not attributing it to the coach. and i'm not attributing their failures to the coach, either. particularly in playoff time. players step up and win games and championships. end of story. which i why i also agree with you, at least in part, regarding tim duncan. it's just that teams with great postmen have gone ringless before...i find it's those that truly commit to defense that commit to the team game on the offensive end of the ball, as well. and that usually raises their level of play as a unit. a good coach can make that happen...i've already seen van gundy do that once with a team.
