The standard fine is 10K - that's what Avery got last week. This has got to be a type-o with an extra "0" in it, if not --
Yeah, I want all the Rockets to know this, to know how hard and how much their coach has fought for them. Now, bring you A game and defend your coach with your heart and soul. Prove you are worth the 100K sacrifice from your coach's pocket, yes, Yao, I am talking to you. Wonder how much JVG earns for one season... Man, 100K, NBA officers are bunch of bandits.
Could the NBA really be this stupid?? If this is true, Mark Cuban's plan has totally back fired. Assesing one of the largest fines in NBA history against a coach should not only motivate his players but it will also turn all eyes to the officiating of YAO. Now it's up to Yao not to make the dumb fouls because you can be sure the cheap ones ain't going to be called tonight.
Hopefully, the team will respond in a big way and win this series to help JVG forget about this stupid fine. Cheez, thats a lot of money! Is this a record for the highest fine in the NBA?
the usual fine is 10G. that is because the usual complaint is "the refs did a bad job or they messed up. this time jeff said that the refs had it on thier website to call it tougher on yao. this isnt the typical complaint. this is calling the nba out on a conspiracy. les will pick up the tab. it would be nice if the fans could donate some money as well. one poster said theywould put 20 bucks for it. if the 3000 members here put in 10 bucks a piece that would take 1/3 of the hit off jeff and also keep the matter in the news.
on a serious note though that's gotta be a typo.. since when do you fine coaches $100,000? even though most coaches make enough to put that fine as chump change, still a complete bull**** fine
david stern is such a dictatorial jerk. i don't care what the bargaining agreements say, a $100,000 fine for pointing out unfairness is simply unwarranted. someone should fine stern that same amount for being such an insensitive a$$. he really needs to get fired. it's things like this, in this case unwillingness to accept criticism which could improve the refereeing, that has made the nba such a hack.
W.O.W.! If nothing fires up the Rox for tonight, I hope this does. Nothing makes a team play harder than that 'us against the world' belief. Clutch City, baby! J
WOW 100,000!!! DAMN!! How much was Jermaine Oneil fined for saying in a nut shell the NBA is racist??? Oh yeah.. NOTHING!! something seems kinda messed up here doesnt??
I just have to post again and say that this boggles my mind- JVG has always been a smartass, but 100k for saying that??? What about Cuban posting his little demographic about win/loss record according to officiating? 100 G's. 100 smackers. 1000 large. Holy smokes. J
Hope it's true. Clearly more of an issue if it is, which on the court can only be good for the Rockets...even if they get screwed refereeing again, this time everyone will be watching.
Let’s say JVG was telling the truth and he did have this ref friend. Is there any chance he use this 100G lawyer up and go to the court? That will be very interesting. I would love to see how the NBA front office response to a lawsuit. That said, I don't think JVG will ever take the case to the court.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs2005/news/story?id=2051807 NEW YORK -- Houston Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy, who accused officials of targeting center Yao Ming this postseason, was fined $100,000 by the league Monday. Van Gundy has blamed Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban for what he perceives as the officials' mistreatment of Yao. Van Gundy said a referee not working the playoffs called him and warned that officials "were looking at Yao harder because of Mark's complaints" to the league office. He said that Cuban "has been hard on them," and "he's gotten the benefit." "I didn't think that really worked in the NBA, but in this case it has," Van Gundy said, declining to name his source. Van Gundy made the comments to three reporters at the team's hotel in Dallas on Sunday night. At a shootaround Monday -- prior to Game 5 of the series, which was split at two games apiece -- Van Gundy said: "I stand by what I said. I believe it. I know what was told to me, and I've seen how it played out." Van Gundy said his official friend called him after Houston took a 2-0 lead and said the targeting of Yao was mentioned in an online evaluation from supervisor of officials Ronnie Nunn. "No such directive was given to the officials regarding Yao Ming or any other player or team in the playoffs," NBA vice president Stu Jackson said in a statement released to reporters from KRIV-TV, The New York Times and the Houston Chronicle, the three media outlets present when Van Gundy made his comments Sunday night. Cuban, who has been fined more than $1 million since buying the team five years ago, said in an e-mail that the accusations were "crazy" and "an insult to officials.'' He also noted that Dallas center Erick Dampier has picked up quick fouls in every game this series, too. "They don't officiate individual players differently," Cuban wrote. Cuban acknowledged that the team sent the league a list of plays they thought should've been called moving screens on Yao Ming and backup Dikembe Mutombo. He said the league responded that "nine were actually moving screens and should have been called but were not." "So if anything, he has it completely backward," Cuban said. Asked Monday if he'd heard from the league, Van Gundy said team vice president Keith Jones "told me that they said not to say anything more." "I didn't expect them to come out and say it was true, though," Van Gundy said. Yao fouled out of Game 1 in 20 minutes. He had four fouls in Game 2, when he made 13 of 14 shots and scored 33 points, then had five fouls in each of the last two games. Dampier fouled out of Game 4 in 18 minutes. He had five fouls in 19 minutes of Game 3.
JVG, if I were you, I would hire a bodyguard, the NBA mafia is coming for you (They told him, "Don't say anything else", or what?!!) I have JUST been convinced now that what JVG said is absolutely true, I didn't think it was true at the beginning, but the NBA action to come down hard on JVG like this means that what he said is absolutely true The mafia heads don't like snitches. Boy I feel sorry for that refree(s) that tipped JVG to it.
