maybe we can write to the league of fans about that whole JVG thing and reference the previous letter and the whole 'lifetime ban' thing anyone with good writing skills? http://www.leagueoffans.org/
Did anyone else see the press conference where one of the media guys told Van Gundy that "further investigations" were to occur, and he may even be suspended from coaching???It was kind of interesting. anyone else catch this??
I was just thinking about this after I heard about the fine. How the hell does the NBA get away with fining people for statements about officiating in general? It's ridiculous. As long as no single referee is pointed out, I don't see how they should be able to fine for it. I guess as usual, sports is aside from the law.
Even mentioning a Life time ban on Van Gundy is Stupid Even mentioning a Life time ban on Van Gundy is Stupid! I can't beleive that was the way his press conference ended. Stern must really have it in for the Rockets when he is considering banning Van Gundy for Life. Even Van Gundy was shocked, but I like his attitude, "if they ban me F#@k 'em; I was right". This is getting worse than a soap opera
It is going to get interesting. I doubt Van Gundy will name names. We have to protest our displeasure this next game. Either by banning the whole product as a whole or getting out in masses to show our displeasure. Houston has to stick together and tell the NBA, we aren't going to be second class citizens. Because, that's the way they are treating the fans.
Gundy wanted the fine I am sure now that the real reason Gundy went out to the press and said those things was to get his team to play harder...knowing that Gundy is in trouble, knowing that Gundy stuck his neck out... ....maybe ....just maybe It will inspire this team to the next level.
anyone willing to start a protest through a petition to the ignorant blob of a commish about this? just wondering...cause my blood is boiling and I wanna do something besides just rant about the horrible officiating
I love it. Van Gundy is a hero. He's totally taking all the media and putting it on himself. DOn't you guys see? He's taking one for the team. Everyone is talking about Gundy, and no one is talking about Choke. The guy is brilliant. Absolutely brilliant, and you know his players are going to love him for it and bust their asses like they never have before!
Some of the AP articles are implying that Stern could seek a lifetime ban on Van Gundy for doing this (see http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/front/3164390 ). Now that I've thought about it, I think there is no way that can happen legally. My reasoning is this: If Van Gundy can actually back up and prove what he said is true, then I believe he would be classified as a whistle blower. And whistle blowers are legally entitled to keep their jobs. Therefore, if Lord Stern actually does try to ban Van Gundy, you can probably expect a major lawsuit against the NBA if what JVG said is proven to be correct. This is all coming from an HR class I took last semester. Perhaps somebody with a better Human Resource law background can verify or dispute what I said. Nevermind the fact that if Van Gundy actually did get banned it would probably cause a huge backlash anyway.
what can he do? first of the fine is WAY out of line. and since when cant a coach complain about fouls. Phil Jackson use to call out the refs after EVERY game about foul calls on shaq.
The fine is outrageous...hopefully that will be the rallying point for this team - to make Jeff's crucification worthwhile.
Yeah, if Stern wanted to fine a coach for trying to manipulate the officiating through the media, he had plenty of chances to do that with PJ.
