I hate valentine's day. I don't like the idea of a made-up holiday that encourages you to spend loads of money out of obligation. The wife and I are going to cook a really nice meal together, and consume an expensive bottle of wine.
Dunno about you, but I sure can taste the difference between a nice bottle of Pinot Noir and Boone's Farm Strawberry. Can't you?
Yeah, some people can, depends on the bottles though. There's great wine for $10 a bottle & there's great wine for $100 a bottle. Drink what you like, and spend what you're comfortable spending. We should start a wine thread. As to V-Day, we do the same as rhad...cook dinner together, wine & maybe throw on a movie later. No gifts (we didn't do XMas gifts either, we give each other gifts at random times of the year), no flowers.
Bottle?? I thought wine only came in a box... I've decided that I'm just going to have some roses sent to my girlfriends school (she's a teacher). That will score me MAJOR points with her friends. Then, I'll probably cook her dinner that night. We're not going out.
Not entirely...Granted, everyone's palate is different, however, I've had some really good bottle's of Cab that were under $5 and $10...but its hit and miss...I've had some crappy expensive wines too, but its rare...Most likely a bad batch, bad storage, etc... Maybe someone will start a thread (HINT) as I'm no wine connoisseur, then we can list good cheap and good expensive wines we've all tried...
Yeah, and if I poured 10 glasses each from a bottle of $10, $20, $30, - $100, could you rank them accordingly?
No idea what we're gonna do for Valentines Day. I'd love to say I don't want to do anything or even want like a card but I'd be lying so since you're going to two games right before Valentines Daya card would be awesome. I'm not sure what to get a guy though so any advice on a gift would be nice. ps. Valentine's Day sucks cuz we love each other everyday so why go all out for just one?
I've done years of research on the subject. My studies have shown that there are 5 parts to every valentines day... 1. flowers 2. gift 3. card 4. candy 5. dinner & drinks Now don't fret, you don't have to have all 5 parts to be successful but you must have at least 3 parts covered or you're screwed. My experience also shows they don't have to be expensive but you MUST cover at least 3 of the 5 parts to have any chance for a big payoff.
I'll probably go w/ a nice dinner, and have some flowers delivered to her lab. And maybe a spa gift certificate. Can anyone think of another similar, but different gift certificate to give? And if you want a deal on flowers, try this: ProFlowers.com Type in 'dan' for the special deals. Courtesy of the Dan Patrick show. For example, you'll end up getting two dozen for the price of one after typing in the special word. After doing some shopping between local florists and large online florists like this, the online ones seem to have much better deals. Usually the flowers and vase come in a box, and you have to open the box and remove the straps that hold the flowers in place. The point is it doesn't look immediately appealing when she receives them, and she'll have to spend a few minutes removing the flowers, cutting the stems, putting them in the included vase. But it's a lot cheaper. Or avoid the direct delivery to her, send them to your house, and give them to her that night. The quality has always been great too, in any case.
A Bath & Bodyworks gift certificate always works for me. If she likes make up then a MAC gift certificate would be awesome. Also if you want to keep with the spa theme then a gift certificate to a candle store and a bookstore would be really great. That way she gets candles, bubble bath, and a good book to read in the tub. I know from experience that that is an awesome gift.
Ooh, GREAT idea. I've never thought of that. A candle, nice bubble bath and maybe a $15 gift card to a bookstore would be a cute gift. Probably around $20 in all.
Wow. Two women (unless I'm mistaken) in a row giving these gifts an endorsement? As Jim Cramer says: "BUY! BUY! BUY!"
