Although I am not a JVG fan, I wish there were a way to get him his $25K back from the league -- his criticism of the referees regarding Yao was and is spot on.
I enjoyed the recap, NewYorker, but I have to give you some crap on this! That is the most brutally misspelled word that I have ever seen. CAMRADERIE!
Kenny Smith is a racist...not giving Yao much credits for the things he has done this and last year the guy who was the main commentator gave Yao planty of credits, before and during the game thanks for the analysis
I would love to see a game there. I think NY has the best fans. They seem to really appreciate the game.
I don't agree with this. I think Yao gets a lot of criticism because he was hyped to dominate and then you see a 5'8" guy block his shot. Stuff like that makes it hard for people to get behind Yao and they see him as weak. You never saw that happen to Shaq. I agree that Yao gets more criticism then he deserves, but to call it racism is just not right either. If Yao bullied everyone around like Shaq did at this point in his career, trust me, Yao wouldn't be criticized.
Well, NY fans range from the worst to the best - true for anywhere - but I had these two guidos talking behind me the whole game until I started clapping every time something went the Rockets way and they got the hint that they were being obnoxious - talking about work at a basketball game! What a waste of seats! There were quite a few Rockets fans and Yao fans in the arena by the way. And I think I saw a bunch of guys in red shirts way off in the nose bleeds in section 340.
Sir - I, too, noticed NYer's misspelling, but b/c his initial post was so good/insightful, i decided to let it go. However, YOU, TOO, misspelled the word. It's spelled: C - A - M - A - R - A - D - E - R - I -E - CAMARADERIE. Your spelling wasn't as brutal, but if you're gonna call someone out, make sure you don't leave yourself open to attack.
Kenny is no racist.. he is just a dumbA$$ ... I dont really care what he says about Yao because that stuff is getting old..but his overall analysis is stupid.. TNT dressed him up in a nice suit and called him a basketball analyst.. he is no analyst.. he is at his best a former mediocre NBA player who got lucky to play with the Dream and win 2 championships... Kenny is overrated, it seems like everybody remembers his 8 3's game and forgets all the negative stuff he did (TOs ??)
because people are stupid and arrogant.... How can you expect a 7'6 guy to dominate trully the game of basketball... well, too many people don't understand what it means beeing 7'6 His body frame is huuuge... I am so proud of Yao, he manages his body very good on the court, I believe there will be noone close to Yao with the same body lenght.... its unbelievable what he can do with his size
Once again, people confuse the amount of media attention Yao received when he entered the nba as hype. Hype involves positive talk. He was never hyped up. Most of the media attention he received was negative and this is not the same as hype. See Lebron entering the draft as the proper definition as hype. Some quotes stolen from realgm. Andy Munger, in an AllSports.com column, 5/3/02 : Bill Simmons, ESPN.com, May 2002: Ronald Tillery, Memphis Commercial Appeal, 11/10/02: Charles Barkley on TNT, 11/14/02:
Other observations... At the start of the game as the teams were lining up for the jump ball, I saw Rafer pointing into the courtside seats. I looked over and Spike Lee was pointing back. They seemed pretty tight, it was cool. The place went absolutely nuts for the Nate-Rob block on Yao, loudest moment of the game. I thought there were quite a few Rockets fans at the game only to realize that they were really YOF's. I sat in front of Chinese fans who kept saying "Yaoming!!" throughout the game. I like that we have more fans following the Rockets but sometimes it feels like following a circus team especially when every other team holds their Asian heritage night when we're in town. There seemed to be a fairly significant Greek community who obviously had come to see Spanou play. It was great that he got some burn. Eddy Curry, Kelvin Cato and Jerome JAmes are three of the most underachieving bigs in the game. Stevie actually played a controlled game, making smart plays on defense and offense, occasionally popping up for a 3-ptr or drive here or there. This said its weird to see him being such a peripheral part of the team. I'd take him back! Thats all for now..
I think this was a reaction to all the Hype around Yao. There's got to be some when you get picked first. And let's not forget that Yao came after Shawn Bradley - who was hyped ENORMOUSLY and then turned out to be a bust. Look, people can hold on to that or let it go. Clearly there is a bias against Yao because of his supreme height and similarity coming into to other busts. That bias may never go away. But there is also this weird complex by "YOF" who seem to take the criticism against Yao personally - as some kind of criticism of themselves. And that's what I roll my eyes at. Ultimately - who cares? All I care about is Yao bringing us a championship. He may never "look" like the best center, but right now, he's the best center in the NBA. Who cares if Kenny Smith or Barkley disagree. Why does that bug people so much? It's just someone else's opinion - get over it!
Trust me, he will be criticized no matter what he does. People are biasd, and it's very hard to change.
here's the proof for me that these anal ysts are racist: as someone pointed out, kenny and fat chuck wanted to talk about dwight howard when they were supposed to be talking about yao. last season steve kerr was trying to make an argument for chris kaman being the 2nd best center. black supporting black and white supporting white. coencidence? not from my perspective. and on a side note, i feel sorry for white analysts that have to put up with the kenny smith's and fat barkley's and calvin murphy's. it seems to me that they pick on their white partners because they are white.
