should he apologize? are u serious? first of all, it doesn't matter if he apologizes or not, I dont care if he kisses JVG's a$$, all I know is he is in the inescapable dog house of JVG and he is not going to see any minutes as long as JVG is coaching this team. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets traded sooner or later, because u have to learn this: nobody messes with JVG and gets a free pass. the great Bonzi Wells, who can turn our team to an instant championship team with his skills that we are really lacking, got stuck in the dog house for 2 months and he is barely seeing any minutes now. imagine how it's gonna be with "Vspan", the "T.O machine" and the "greek guy who isn't used to playing NBA basketball". and lets get back to reality now, he isn't gonna get any minutes anyways, why should he apologize? he didn't do anything wrong. all he did is question if he got punk'd by the rockets or not. and he actually did get punk'd. they called him everyday and they begged him to come over, just to have him glued to the bench watching JL3 jack up 13 shots and make only 3 of them in a night that the NBA MVP Steve Nash shot only 10 shots. dont get me wrong though, I am not demanding playing time for him, I did this in the other thread, but here, I am just being realistic and logical to explain why he SHOULDN'T apologize. we've seen the "opportunity" he got from JVG, he got him playing @ the 2 against a much bigger guard to "show us what he can do". well, Mr. JVG, the guy isn't a 2, he is a PG, and in Europe, they dont have "combo guards" like Steve Francis who can switch between the 1 and 2. the guy is an original PG, he might suck, but that's what he is. u cant put him in and tell him "ok Vspan, show us what u can do, here, play 17 minutes at the 2 and shoot 3's". his strengths (if u consider them strengths) are handling the ball and distributing it; making plays for others. I dont know what goes on in practice, but if JVG is playing the 2, he will never be content with his "production" and he will keep him glued to the bench. actually, here's a good question: why would u sign a guy without even watching tapes of him? without even scouting him?. here's a better one: why didn't u watch your national team get beat in the world championship coach?. if u think he sucks (which might be a valid point, dont get wrong), why sign him in the first place? all these questions dont mean anything, because afterall, JVG is a great professional NBA basketball coach. he probably knows what he is doing.... or does he??
I voted Yes, but not because I demand it. Like Yetti said, this is a country of free speech. But, "I'm Sorry" works wonders in any situation. RR
maybe it's because Vspan doesn't have big tattoos of naked girls on his arms. or maybe it's because he has a thick beard and a heavy European accent. and as Clyde loves to put it; this is what u call, double standards..
I wouldn't say "happily". I am tired of the VSpan threads... there are way too many. DaDakota of all people needs to chill out on them. But I actually went to lock this thread and felt I needed to correct hotballa's conclusion about the ClutchFans article. I let it go but I should have remained consistent and locked it. There are just too many V-Span threads right now ...
Sniff. Sniff. I smell a rat. Real strange that this source comes out with a report like this in light of the last few days.
I think this thread makes sense. This won't fit in any other VSpan thread in this board. And the yes no poll helps a lot to find out the general opinion on this matter. I think you should lock the other threads instead. Good job DD.
i am all for VSpan playing more but i dont think complaining and threatening to leave is the answer he should try to mend his relationsihp with the team and gain playing time the old fashion way: by proving that he can help the team and deserves time out there.
of course he needs to apologize for the distraction which he created. i don't care if he's right (i agree with him), i don't care if he didn't know any better, you don't take those kinds of things to the papers. in my first year of managing the hofstra basketball team we had a road trip to miami. on the plane i was chatting with a local reporter. the next thing i know i was in the paper as an "inside sourse that's close with the team" and quoted as saying that one of the bench players told me they think they deserve to start. i wasn't even aware of the article but the team quickly tracked it back to me. i remembered my convo with the reporter. he asked me "shouldn't so and so start?" i responded with "they think they should." that turned into "so and so is complaining about PT and a sourse that's close with the team confirms..." yes they took what i said and elaborated on thier own. they were wrong about alot of what was said in the article. all i said was they think they should start. can't it be assumed that every player thinks they should start? especially a key sub who already plays starters minutes. anyway, it was still my fault for saying anything and i apologized on my own. with 15 players, 4 coaches, a training staff, and a managing staff, you have plenty of people to complain to. you don't have to complain to people outside of the rockets family.
I really don't care how good he is ... he definitely did the wrong thing by whining to the media. At the very least he ought to apologize to the coach and the rest of his teammates. Doesn't have to be a public affair ... but he needs to set things straight. He has burnt himself some bridges with his comments.
V-Span, [practicing at Toyota Center]: "Coac Van Gundy. Thanks for coming down to talk to me. I wanted to see you right away, but my hours here aren't very flexible. I just started practicing my shooting yesterday." Jeff Van Gundy: "Well, I'm here. What is it?" V-Span: "Well, I talked to my sponsor, and, uh, I've thought it over, and, you know, my apology at practice was sarcastic, and rude, and you deserve much better." Jeff Van Gundy, ready to leave: "Well, thank you." V-Span: "You're welcome." Kid, [entering the store]: "Can I get an autograph?" V-Span: "Basketball or photo?" Jeff Van Gundy: "Uh, excuse me, uh, um, V-Span. I don't want to get into a big thing here, but... I'm not sure if, technically, what you just said was actually an apology." V-Span: "What?" Kid: "Can you get on that autograph?" V-Span: "Would you hang on just a second, son? Coach Van Gundy, what are you talking about?" Jeff Van Gundy: "Well, it's just, all you said was 'your welcome', which is nice. It's very nice. But... I feel I gotta get the apology." Kid: "Is there anybody else here but you?" V-Span: "I'm alone. You know, I don't even think we have any basketballs or photos... Coach Van Gundy, really, enough, ok? You know, I-I admitted I was wrong, so what more do you want from me?" Jeff Van Gundy: "I would like an apology." V-Span: "All right, look, you know--" Kid #2, [entering the store]: "Did you get it?" Kid: "No, this guy doesn't know what he's doing." V-Span: "Oh, yes I do. Yes, I do. OK? I'm interacting with someone here, if you can understand that. Now, I'm sorry." Jeff Van Gundy: "Baah! There it is! You just said it! That's what I want! Now say it again, and tell it to me." V-Span: "I'm not saying anything to you. I'm not sorry. I was never sorry. It was practice. I hate Step Nine!
Seems very familar. What will a apology do? Do you think JVG really cares? I think he should stop talking about anything beyond how excited he is to be on a team with such great potential. Maybe he should watch some more tape and see how successful drivers are also good shooters.
rox fans pay more attention to rox... on the rox, when a player has been doped up or whatever, he has been called out for it, griffin, mo, etc... so if this is another comment about"get off my boy", it doesn't have so much to do with vspan but more of his reaction. if any other player on the team had this reaction, he would and should be called out for it..
Are you sure his time will come under JVG? JVG is not going to play to Vspan's strength, that would make him a bad fit.
