Yeah, which makes the move by him and his agent brilliant, they got more money, and are free to negotiate with any NBA team next year......great move....whether you think V-Span is good or bad, you must admit this is smart business.

Just keep saying it Sam Dubya Fisher. It doesn't make it true. Keep banging that drum.....I will get the last laugh....the LAST LAUGH I TELL YA.....

    BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH !

    Ehem...what was I talking about?
Yeah, you saw how that worked out for Cleveland and their blackball techniques.....in a feeding frenzy NBA, they may have shaken hands, but one thing V-Span has shown is he is unscrupulous as a business man.......if he has a good year, I expect several NBA teams to pursue him, and money and situation will talk.....not hand shake agreements, IMHO.

Spanoulis is no Boozer. Boozer is one of the best PF's in the league now, and he showed a lot of promise when Utah signed him. Spanoulis.... has shown absolutely nothing at this level.

If he wants to come back, perhaps a team that desperately needs a PG (Clips if Livingston doesn't heal, Miami) will try to sign him, but he's not so good that a team will risk the negative publicity that will come with violating the gentleman's agreement.

Smart business in the short term, too bad he is now an NBA pariah and will not be negotiating with anybody next year.

Hope he likes his mother's mousakka! Oh wait, we already know he does, in fact he can't live without it. What a tough guy! He really is the T-Mac of Greece, except he makes McGrady look like Hacksaw Jim Duggan, mentally.

LOL, if there was ever a poster boy for saying something and pretending it's true, it's you anyway, laugh all you want, please keep starting spanoulis threads and talking about him...please, I beg you, please.

If he'd thought of working on these things a year ago, he might not have collected all those splinters in his butt during the season.

Wow - a pariah? You are calling him a pariah? ROFLMAO !!

Come on, was John Elway a Pariah, Steve Francis, or ANY pro athlete that whined their way into a more advantageous situation.

If other execs think he has talent, they will pursue him, everyone is willing to overlook issues that players had with other organizatoins, it happens ever single day in sports, heck in all walks of life.

If a team thinks he can play they won't care one bit about what happened in Houston, V-Span will be able to blame it on lies and a coach that has a history of running off players.

The key will be whether they believe he has talent enough to play, and you and I disagree on that.....We shall see what NBA GM's think next year, and in the future.....

I think he will develop, you don't. We shall see.

Pot, kettle, black....and I didn't start this thread.

And, if you recall, I got in trouble for hijacking GARM threads, this one is the proper place to discuss this topic, but keep up with your underhanded threats, it suits you.

It just won't stop the truth....the TRUTH....I TELL YA !!!

    :p

I am yin to your yang.....but in arguments, it is more like I am WIN to your WANG !

    WOOT ! :D

I doubt their would be even a ripple of publicity or backlash, does Boozer get universally booed outside of Cleveland?

One of these things is not like the other.

You're talking about a Hall of Famer and an all star, compared with a hairy, whiney, borderline NBA talent, who flamed out after one ugly season of discontent and recrimination.
He didn't, we saw. Welcome to 2007.

Now he is back in the barn where he came from, yet you can't seem to remove your mouth from his rotating meat log.

The joke is on you, kiddo.

He will get mooed, since he will be playing barnyard ball for the rest of his career so his mommy can keep an eye on him.

Or else he could come back to the US and run a diner.

Neither of those players was hall of famer or all star when they whined their way into a better situation. So the comparison holds up.

Yeah, as always, I am talking about him developing in the future, and you are giving up on his potential after one year.

[sarcasm]You are right, no player EVER develops after a tough rookie year.....never....

    [/sarcasm]

Wanna bet? I am willing to give up my sig for an entire summer that says he will be back in the NBA within 3 years.....

Pony up big boy....it is GO time !!

Barnyard ball? OK... Just keep underestimating European basketball like that, for all the good that it does to you. We've already seen the results anyway.

Btw, Stern said a few days ago that at least 3-4 Euroleague teams (including Span's team, Panathinaikos) could easily compete in the NBA, even now. Although I don't agree with European teams moving to the NBA for practical reasons, according to Stern this could be a reality in the next 10 years.

European Teams do not have to play the other NBA teams. What they should do from a practicle standpoint is play in their own backyard and send their best teams to the Championships to play for the world title.

Neither of them were second round picks who had flamed out after a year when they did it and then went running back to the barn.
Not little b****es who cry for their mommy and then go back to greece and play in barns. I have never heard of one of those developing. Have you?

This bet is f-king terrible. So I have to wait four years to win it? F-k that, think of something better.

Funny how WITHIN 3 years gets to be 4 years in Donkey and Sam's V-Span hating club.....but.......And we are not allowed to have real wagers on here, or Sam and you would both be busy polishing my car's bumper right now.

    :D

I believe this thread has run it's course.

    A. V-Span is not signing with San Antonio - at least this year.

    B. Arguments are tired and old - One side says he sucks the other says he never got a chance or will develop.

    C. People unwilling to bet.

V-Span had a great career in Houston, he did 2 very important things.

    1. He solidified our PF position by allowing us to get Scola

    2. He helped get rid of a myopic coach.

    Not bad....Billy.....not bad at all....

    :D

Uh, I was editing that into something else......clearly he was not the only reason, but management's belief that JVG mismanaged the roster was a contributing factor.....CD and Morey and Les gave JVG tools that he ignored last year......but whatever...

And I think V-Span did the right thing for his career, just as Elway and Francis did.

Billy found himself with an organization that he no longer trusted, felt betrayed, and was ridiculed by a Napoleonic coach that plays favorites.

    And he got us Scola.....

    Everyone wins.

I looked at Panathinaikos BC Athens current roster. There's about 9 players that could certainly have played in the NBA.

    Kennedy Winston
    Michael Batiste
    Fragiskos Alvertis
    Milos Vujanic
    Sani Becirovic
    Dimitris Diamantidis
    Vassilis Spanoulis
    Dimosthenis Dikoudis
    Kostas Tsartsaris

Obviuously Spanoulis and Diamantidis are the cream of the crop of the team though.

They apparently are also still looking to sign another NBA level player.

That means when they play SA and Houston in the pre-season they should have a 10 man rotation of NBA quality players.

A lot of American fans simply are ignorant, arrogant and condescending when it comes to anything of basketball "outside the US" and have no clue about the quality of a team like Panathinaikos.

A lot of people here really do believe US players are so superior and NBA and Team USA is so far above top level players/teams/national teams from elsewhere.

It's not true of course. We've got our butts kicked several times now in international play and still so many fans here believe this.

Anyone else notice that supposedly Van Gundy calls Greece basketball "playing in barns" and that the ONLY person who keeps stating this is Sam Fisher?

That's funny, because I don't recall Elway whining his way to the CFL (even when using the threat of baseball) or Francis whining his way to the CBA. At least they wanted to remain IN THE SAME LEAGUE.
