It was quite a performance. Everyone in the Garden was like, "Who is that fiesty fellow!" and the applauded his effort when he left the game. That's a rare thing indeed. The guy has game - a little out of control to be sure, but he's going to crack the rotation.
yes, V-span have a gold future in this leagen but the first thing he need to increase is defensive, no the offensive.. gooooooooooooooooooooo,go,go
You named three positive plays associated with V-Span in his 13 minutes of playing time... thats hardly game changing. Some of which are not even really all that positive or can be attributed to him only. The "near steal" you described was a foul, though it was probably a good foul in that instance as it looked like the knicks might have had numbers. The diving on the ground play, while good hustle was inconsequintal to the play as Battier was the first to the floor and was the one who caused the jump ball. He did however contirbute two other positives you forgot to mention though no neither was spectacular or will show well on the box score. The first being, taking the ball into the middle of the defense on two occasion instead of just passing the ball along or taking a contested jumpshot. The second was the attempted shot he took while drving baseline which resulted in a Yao offensive rebound and slam. In sum I liked the energy that V-span plays with, especially his fearlessness in taking the ball into the paint and the grit he seems to play with. However his play in this game was certainly not "game changing" nor should it be expected to be. After all it was his first real minutes of the season.
Dude - You should be his agent. Yeah he was energetic but he has been parked on the bench for the entire season, he should have gas in the tank. That almost steal was a foul. His one drive to the hole was a miss that Yao had to put back. He didn't look for his shot. He scored zero points. He had one assist. Game changing, I think not. I'll give VSpan his props when he deserves it but today wasn't that game.
I like his energy, but I still think he's well behind in development. This would be the perfect opportunity for JVG to let Wells play into game shape, even if it's just 10-15 minutes per night for the first few games. A 70% Wells is still much better than a 100% V-Span.
Lol VSPAN should not become the starter at the end of the season. Rafer has a lot more experience than him.
you need to give rookie time to develop and not by letting them warming the bench every night and this is a good opportunity for the rocket to develop their rookies and when spring comes there's more options. It's only vspan's first significant game so have patience Yao used to have a 0pt game against indiana too
It's his first NBA game. Any contribution is good. He also opened up in NYC, the capital of the world. We won that game by 7 points. It sounds like VSpan might have been the difference. If you drive to the hole and your center gets an offensive rebound, you probably drew a defender. He had an assist. Assists always lead to points. He stopped a breakaway two on one. He took a charge. It sounds like he used his fouls wisely as well. He'll play more in the future and he might be the reason, albeit small, that we won tonight. All those plays ya'll mentioned add up to 7 points in one way or another.
He was Ryan Bowen in the backcourt for us last night. LOTS of effort! But other than that, mehh... He did what anyone who's dying to play would do. I think Juwan has been playing well. His rebounding rate has been terriffic since Chuck's been out. He's giving better effort and his passing has improved. He's a great fill-in for the moment. Let's hope V-Span can continue to put forth that effort, while improving his ballhandling and overall offensive production. He has the potential to be an EXCELLENT bench player for us. Backing up Alston, and if everything goes right, maybe even logging huge minutes off the bench at the end of the season. I don't like seeing Alston play more than 30 minutes. His productivity diminishes after a certain point.
As I also wrote in the game thread: Imagine you were at his place: Not playing for 10 games and then- suddenly- the coach gives you a chance, and you know: I will either convince him or I will warm the bench for the next 30 games. Imagine how anxious and nervous he must have been! Therefore he hardly penetrated or shot, beacause he was afraid of making a mistake. Let him get some confidence and in 4-5 games you will have the REALSPAN!
I agree he played with good energy, but overall I didn't think he played that well. He passed up at least one open shot and looked a step slow on D. I do think that he can play and will get better, but he was shaky tonight.
I really can't understand folks who can not see the potential and the excellence in VSpan. The key difference between him and bowen is that, Ryan Bowen defends his man passively whereas VSpan (no matter how nervous/anxious he is) is always in attacking mode even when he is on D. No wonder he got the nickname of KILLBILL. And he is a very smart decision maker too. Although haven't got used to NBA's play style yet, VSpan already showed he could become an intelligent type of player who knows how to use his fouls, when to take a charge etc. Got the feeling that people would feel sorry for Rafer and Luther once he gets his full set of play-making skills on display. I Love Snyder, but belive his injury is truly a blessing in disguise for the team. Backing up 1 or 2 is a perfect starting point for the Greek sensation.
well, even if youre michael jordan, if you sit on that bench for like, eternity, once you step on the floor for the 1st time, it feels like the ball is made out of crap. its called jitters!
You won't get 13 mins (a lot of 4th quarter time) from JVG if you play shaky even when Snyder is out.
