but we still have a big hole at SG. Snyder might not start under JVG and Head sure can't defend bigger size SGs. Battier is too slow to defend at 2.. we might just hv to grab one more SG/SF and a 3rd C/PF.
Who is the starting two guard? Snyder? When was the last time the Rockets had a 6'6'' shooting guard? I like that size.
either I'm being lazy or can't think, how many roster spots do we have left/who is currently signed(including Novak,JL3 and VSpan)? and what do the Rox have left to spend?
The Rockets should be on the phone TODAY with Lorenzen Wright's agent offering a 3-year contract starting at the remainder of the MLE (~$3.5M). They finally know their answer on Spanoulis, meaning that they can address their PF depth FINALLY. With a firm figure in hand, they should go forward with their "Mike James blinders" and concentrate their efforts on (and stroke the ego of) Lorenzen Wright. Alston/Spanoulis/JLIII Snyder/Head/Sura McGrady/Battier/Novak/Bowen Wright/Howard/Hayes Yao/Mutombo That's 15 roster players. This, of course, assumes that (1) Sura is too injured to contribute; (2) the Rockets can't trade Juwan Howard; (3) Wright would be the starting PF; and (4) Battier would be our Sixth Man, playing major minutes and during crunch-time.
I like Lorenzen Wright alot, but I would like to see the rockets get some speed in the frontline, cause Hayes is the only guy that can really move although he's a midget for a PF. Tony Battie would also be nice as well.
I don't see a team offering better. He better come here, I like his perimeter shot, defense, rebounding and athleticism. Nothing special but in 30mpg can get us 8/8 and provide a better defensive impact.
I like Lorenzen Wright but I also like Korver..Just tell him to stand outside the 3 pt line and he'll see the ball
Lorenzen's steady decline in production is troubling, but I think 3 years starting at only $3.5 is fair. Then I would try really hard to pry Korver away from Philadelphia for the TE. He's a Mike Miller clone, just not quite as good, and TMac has already had success playing with that type of player. Add Yao, and Korver's 42% 3 pt percentage should be easy pickings. I'd probably even include a protected first round draft pick to entice Philadelphia. Management is 100% on board with win now, so you have to assume that said draft pick won't be too high. I don't really care as much about JLIII. I'd prefer to cut Bowen and sign JLIII if we could add Korver as our 15th guy, but either way.
If we are going after another pf, I don't think it would be wise to use our MLE to sign him. We have Howard, Hayes, Novak, and Battier (i have a feeling Battier will be playing plenty of minutes at the 4). Assuming we want Novak to play any time at all, and assuming Hayes will get a few more minutes this year, how on earth are we going to rationalize signing another pf? Personally, I think we need to trade Howard if we are planning on adding another pf. I'd like to use the rest of the TE on Ariza, and I'd like to trade Jhow for a backup center (or use the TE to get a backup center/4).
If only 13 people can win a ring, and 12 people can be active.I think this would be best. PG:Alston/V-Span/JLIII SG:Snyder/Head SF:T-Mac/Novak PF:Battier/Howard/Hayes C:Ming/Mutumbo Inactive:Bowen (I'd rather he retired and get someone else to fill the inactive spot.)
We have a ~$4.6 TPE that will expire IIRC by February 2007. I'll say if nothing is there for now, hold on to it until the eve of its expiration. A sign and trade will be nice but the teams that want to dump salary are not showing their hands yet. As for the ballance of our MLE (~$3.5M), it should be used for a big man (assuming we give JL3 only the league minimum because anything above that will cut into our remain MLE). Prospective big men available for such price (shared or in full) tag include: Reggie Evans Lorenzen Wright Aaron Williams Jamal Sampson The list is not that palatable. that is why I understand why many want Ariza - why get a poor big when you can land a better swing? It depends on your philosophy on these things. JVG won with a small lineup back in his Knicks days with Grandmama as his main big man along side Dudley (when Patrick was injured).
