yeah i'm kinda confused on the timeline. he says for 20 years he had thought of nothing but that day, and i think it was 2020 in the movie (2019 when it started, 2020 when it ended), yet valerie's note to him in prison mentions it being 2015 i think, meaning he could've only been out of prison for 5 years. also, he says it took him 10 years to lay the tracks, again meaning he had to at least start in 2010, before he was even out of prison. maybe i misheard some dates, but the 4 years Oski mentions from the book (2015 to 2019) would make more sense. not that it keeps me from loving the movie, but i couldn't reconcile the dates.
Pretty good flick. Started out kind of "WTF," but it got better and better. The domino sequence was awesome, as was the "final fight." Hugo Weaving is a total badass.
Finally saw it today and wasn't dissapointed. I liken it to the first Matrix film in that it was more focused on the story and the characters. It was off-putting at first to see Hugo talkin w/ the mask but quickly got used to it. Natalie turned in a great performance as usual. The ending was a little bit dissapointing in regards to the fate of a few key characters - had it been a little bit different I felt it would have been largely more impactful. But that was just a minor squibble. Great film indeed.
I am I the only one that didn't like the movie? Throughout the movie i just kept thinking...yes yes i get it now show me something i haven't seen before. Suprise me, make me think, YEAH this was $8.50 (x3) well spent.
well i saw it, it was hyped a bit. i wasn't dissappointed but definately not completely satisfied by it. it does make you think a lot, 1984+current events, sort of made me wonder if they were trying to say the anthrax attacks and avian flus were made by US government and distributed for the sole purpose of solidifying power...yes its a stretch but the matrix made me think a lot too. but than again, it looks like present day N Korea and somewhat like China as well. this was during the Palmer era, and history only repeats it self, so i guess its bond to happen again.
I went and saw it again and although I wasnt completely excited like I was the 1st time, it still was a good movie and a good enough movie for anyone to go see. The people I went with though, their first time, I dont think liked it much. They didnt say much afterwards but one of them said that it confused them which in turn caused them to not like it. I actaully think being with them maybe was a reason I didnt enjoy the movie so much the 2nd time around. I hyped the movie up, talked about how they should go see it, and kinda noticed during the movie that they might not be too into it themselves. That caused me to feel a bit uneasy throughout, I guess, to have them waste their money on it.
the book it is based on is over 15 yrs old and a friend was telling me it was written in '81 but not published until like 88 Rocket River
You need to do one of two things. Either find friends that are smart OR find friends that are so stupid they don't recognize that the movie is full of metaphors and just appreciate it for all the stunts/explosions.
I thought it was cool. I think we need more movies like that. As a kid I always loved watching Robin Hood, or Zorro, and the kinds of movies where folks fight against tyranny, and stand up for what is right. I thought some of the parallels were blatant. The govt. using terrorism to scare folks into giving up their liberties. Creedy=Cheney. The friends of govt. get rich by their scare tactics via coporate holdings with the pharm. company being a Haliburton parallel. But if Creedy was the original name in something that was written in 81, then I doubt it really is a parallel for Cheney. Either way it was a very entertaining film.
Yea i just got to see it on my computer also... At first i was like, oh no not the typical boy meets girl beauty loves beast movie, and then BAMMMM. The plot gets more interesting and more interesting, and i was compeletely into the story. Natalie Portman has been one of my favorites and she didn't disappoint me! And V is my new hero BTW, that prison scene really got me, i couldn't believe the plot of that till 2-3 min after the scene
I got this movie on Netflix about 3 weeks ago, and I have absolutely fallen in love with it. I've watched it three times, and I'm planning on buying the dvd some time soon. V is such a compelling character, and I think the movie does an incredible job of reinforcing the importance of freedom and personal liberty.
