No they don't. Golden State has athletes and their sheer athleticism bothered the Mavs. The Warriors basically put out 5 super athletic guys and athletic guys generally defend pretty well.

Contrast that with the Rockets, who put out 5 guys that individually aren't particularly good defenders. (even Battier is an average individual defender) But the system JVG plays on defense is what works.

Golden State has no system. Their response to everything is to switch on screens and hope for the best. Their athleticism lets them get away with that but if the Rockets ever tried that, we'd go from best in the league to worst in a heartbeat.

Also, this criticism can be applied to Phoenix as well. Guys like Marion and Bell are phenomenal one-on-one defenders. But they don't have a system on defense. It's the same type of chaotic Golden State offense that makes them susceptible to any team that can break it down.

That's why Adelman's offenses are so perfect to beat teams like Phoenix. They emphasize execution and precision through cuts and screens and teams that aren't disciplined on defense like Phoenix and GS have tons of trouble. Last year, our offense was just a bunch of predictable ISO sets that any idiot can plan for, which cut Phoenix and GS a lot of slack.

You are not a Rockets fan. This is a prime example of why Chinese fans get attacked on these forums. It is sad because real fans like pryuen realize that team success is the most vital part of establishing Yao's legacy. For example look at Karl Malone. He had a long and productive career, but could never win the big one. Tim Duncan on the other hand has won a few titles. Duncan will be remembered as the greater player by everyone outside of Utah even though he will most likely retire with lower career stats. Get a clue.

And you called yourself a Yao Ming fan??? Tsk Tsk Tsk......

Anyone who is a true, genuine and loyal fan of Yao Ming will know he paid the least attention to his own stats, and he would do anything.....ANYTHING just to win. He is such an unselfish and great team oriented player........

Did you ever read his famous quote when reporters asked him whether he is willing to be the green leaf alongside Tracy McGrady as the big red flower (i.e. the star) of the Houston Rockets? What was his reply?

He said: "Green leaf ? As long as Tracy can lead us to victory, I can be the soil upon which the flower grows."

No, history does not judge a player purely by stats. History judges a player by his impact to the game and the number of rings and championships he won.

And this is why T-Mac fans are so hypocritical because these very fans who preach team basketball will HOWL in pain if T-Mac has less than 20 FGA. HOWL. So go take your false religion elsewhere. I'm not buying it.

I repeat: Yao Ming has to be the #1a or #1b option. If all of a sudden, Mike James becomes #2, then there is something wrong.

Give JVG credit in this area. He knows how to feed the big man. He knows the Center ought to be the #1 option, and he's right.

Why let some guy like Mike James or Bonzi Wells take more shots than Yao Ming, the best center in the universe?

    A Travesty.

And I laugh at how these T-Mac fans can only take personal pot shots.

Why don't you come up with a logical, and well founded reason for why it is NOT a travesty if Yao averages 13 points next year. Because you can't. There is no good reason why Yao should have less scoring than he did last year.

And let me tell you quite frankly: If Yao Ming lowers himself to become a mere top soil for T-Mac to pee upon, and for Bonzi Wells to **** upon, and for Mike James to spit upon, then I will cease to be a Yao Ming fan.

Look, part of the reason we fans watch sports and root for our team, and players is we want them to not just win but excel.

If Yao Ming is so humble, and so meek to be the soil to T-Mac's Oak Tree which is rooted in Yao's soil, then shame on him.

    SHAME ON HIM!!

That is unsportsman-like conduct, which may sound bizarre but it isn't. A Great player must be competitive, and must strive for greatness.

If he doesn't, then Yao should quit basketball, and become a Monk.

So, if next season, Adelman, who sounds less controlling of his players on the court than JVG, if Yao Ming is reduced to a #3 or #4 option by his selfish players T-Mac, Bonzi Wells ( who will try to pad stats for a big contract ) and Mike James, then Yao MUST complain and fight for his rightful place.

And shame on so called fans of Yao Ming who do not care about his stats. Shame on them.

Basketball is a team game. Wilt Chamberlain didn't start winning rings until his "scrub teammates" took some of his shots.

Yeah, they did didn't they? For some reason, T-Mac gave 100% without Yao but only 50% with Yao. Why is that?

Call me a conspiracy theorist but amidst all the self-evangelizing rhetoric we've seen from T-Mac this past year, with his "It's on Me" to his "Why I should be MVP" campaign, I kind of question T-Mac's integrity on this matter.

T-Mac seemed to smirk when the Rockets lost after faking an injury, when Yao failed to lead his team. It is all too obvious to me.

So with JVG gone, I do worry whether Yao will have a diminished role on the team. And if that is YOF bull. then so be it. Believe me, there are plenty of T-Mac only fans on this board also. Like yourself. So it all evens out.

If you never heard or read that famous quote from Yao Ming about him willing to be the soil for TMAC as long as TMAC can bring victory to the Rockets, then you can really cease to be a Yao Ming fan.

Considering that most USA based fans have never read that, then are you saying there are no TRUE Yao fans in the USA?

    You don't make sense.

Pryuen is getting weird now. He has just displayed a kind of petty Yao fan chauvism, questioning my "fanness" of Yao Ming just because I never read some Chinese article sourced quote?

Really Pryuen. You should be more mature than that.

I can picture Pryuen holding some hidden zeal for being the world's greatest and best-est Yao Ming fan because he tirelessly translates Chinese articles into English.

While I appreciate Pryuens efforts to provide the rest of us mere fans more access to information we never see here in the USA, I have to question Pryuen's chauvinistic zealous snobbery for fans who might not have read that Yao Ming quote.

Actually I am not a big fan of TMac. I think he is inefficient and doesn't know how to utilize his own talents.

A logical reason for Yao averaging 13 points next year would be the other team focusing on double-teaming him to the point where passing to open teammates cutting to the basket is the best option.

Another reason for Yao averaging 13 points would be focusing more of his energy on shutting down the paint on the defensive end and rebounding like a madman.

If he put up a stat line of 13 points, 13 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 4 assists while the Rockets win 65 games in route to the championship, you would be hard pressed to find an analyst who thought he had not improved. Scoring is not everything after all.

    That's logical?

    Let me see...

First of all, you admit T-Mac is inefficient. Who is the most efficient scorer? By far it's Yao Ming.

What is Yao's greatest strength? His offensive dominance. What is his greatest weakness: rebounding and defense.

So let me get this straight. You want Yao to try to become a reboudning defensive center AKA MUTUMBO and all the while, still win a championshpi with an inefficient T-Mac?

    And you claim that's logical?

What is logical is for Yao to be the #1 option so he can provide a huge scoring punch with T-Mac to form the league's best 1 -2 punch that is unstoppable.

What isn't logical is to somehow transform Yao into MUTOMBO ( won't happen ) and neglect what his natural talents are ( OFFENSE ) and over-use an inefficient T-Mac for scoring.

Try again. That is a horrible illogical reasoning.

When did I say that this would result in TMac being used more? We have added Mike James and Bonzi (essentially). Adelman will also use a lot more movement and screens in his offense than iso like JVG. The ball will change hands more often at the very least.

I never said to turn Yao into Mutombo. In fact, that is a stat line more like Bill Russell. If Yao ever approaches his level we can all rejoice. I do not really believe that Yao will have a lesser scoring role (him scoring anything less than 20 would surprise me). I am really just playing devil's advocate here because you opened yourself up to a lot of critisicm with your whole Yao's stats are all that matter attitude.

What is horribly illogical is making unfounded assumptions about my thought process that were written nowhere in my post to support your utter disregard for the Rocket's success.

    Get this through your head.

Yao Ming is not a Defensive Center. He is an offensive center.

If Yao Ming scores less than 20 something points per game, he is being atrociously misused.

Adelman knows this. JVG knows this also.

You've provided the WORST reasoning possilbe into thinking that you can turn Yao Ming into a Bill Russell or a MUTOMBO and thinking that's logical.

    It's not.

And where do you think all those extra scoring will come from? Under your failed scheme, T-Mac will be the main focus, and we're back to Orlando 2004.

    You make ZERO sense.

You say that you're providing a logical response AND also playing the Devil's advocate? I think based on your feedback, both are untrue.

You honestly think this is the logical path to utilize Yao Ming. To turn him into a Mutombo, rebounding and blocking monster. For that is what you've argued for. Don't try to retract and pretend you're joking.

I stand by my original assertion.

Yao Ming BETTER score around 25 points per game.
Yao Ming BETTER complain if he becomes the third option, and scores a measly 13 points.

wow yao_fan. i don't think you quite grasp the concept of team sports. yao ming is not terrel owens. he would be a hateful sob if he was. yao's modesty is refreshing to see in professional sports. if you want to root for a solitary athlete, there are plenty of sports out there for you.
