except that the reports indicate it wasnt a hostage situation due to some major differences. - the shooter had no demands, nor tried to communicate with the police outside the room. - the shooter was still shooting/killing intermittenly after he locked himself in the room. - shots were sometimes being fired and audible in those 911 calls throughout those 47 minutes. as for how the kids were able to make calls. most likely they were hiding, playing dead and making the calls while the shooter roamed between the two rooms. Reportedly one kid who was hiding was killed after replying help to an officers question.
Kids played dead, he didn’t know they were alive. for example, when the cops yelled help and one did got up and did, he went over and shot them
I was being generous, I think most are below average, especially in small towns - not going to shut up, going to keep spouting truth. It is unrealistic for us to expect below to average intelligence guys to make life changing decisions....about situations like this. Better to deal with the root of the problem, and that is the easy access to guns. DD
The details of this are really unbelievable. I don’t see what could come out that would absolve these guys.
This is part of the road to reform. There needs to be a level of police out there that is unarmed. However, America is so full of guns (thanks to 2a folks) that is nearly an impossible idea to sell.
Doesn't seem to be a problem for toll booth attendants, meter maids, firemen, garbagemen, and many other public workers in the USA. Patrolman primary job is revenue collection. That has turned into big fish DUI sniffing but even that doesn't need lethal weapons. IMO
ReALity: when elementary school children do "active shooter drills", the cops do drills on how to enforce stop traffic signs; and apparently getting a shield and a door breaking equipment takes more than an hour for them. ReALity: if you want to feel safe about your kid, get to know your local SWAT team and ensure that they are brave people and are punctual when sh*t hits the fan.. I hope there is all kinds of outrage about this type of reality.
The Justice Department says it will review the police response in Uvalde https://www.npr.org/2022/05/29/1101984142/justice-department-review-police-response-uvalde-shooting
if they are this inept. more kids could be dead from friendly fire if they had been gung ho and rushed in.
Well that is the argument against arming teachers or the good guy with a gun, because the police won't be able to tell the difference. DD
You mean community policing?..........with masks, helmets and everyone strapped for a press conference. Bring it on 5th graders!!
with common sense gun laws, Border Patrol guy couldn't have just grabbed the barber's shotgun and be a stud. Instead, both he and the barber first would have had to go to an FFL, fill out the transfer-of-firearm paperwork, wait for the Border Patrol guy to pass his background check, and then pay the $20 fee for the transfer before the Border Patrol guy could legally get in his car, drive 40 miles, breach the room and put in some work with the old Problem Solver.
with technology those forms could all be done online and payment too . All in less than a minute . BP could have used the extra time to saw off the shotgun for even greater impact
