The cops deserve the criticism they are receiving, but I think many other small town departments would have also performed poorly if faced with the same situation.

It appears that a couple of the major factors that contributed to this cluster was lack of good communication between 911 operators and the police in the school, and the inability to find keys to open the classroom door. These are the types of things that should be addressed when police and schools do these training exercises we hear about. Pretty basic stuff that can really make a difference in one these chaotic events.

Everyone is scrutinizing the cops right now, and for good reason. But, I hope that people remember that it was an evil person that had easy access to a very powerful weapon that is the biggest problem.

I have heard some say that guns aren't the sole reason for these massacres and that's correct. That said, we cannot continue to point the finger elsewhere and NOT pass gun control laws. Politicians can list all the other factors that contribute to these massacres and work to solve for them at the same time solve for a system where we have disturbed people getting easy access to weapons designed to slaughter people.

Why don’t police and police unions put pressure on the NRA and these politicians for more gun control then?

For the NRA, the bond is vital. As the Center for Responsive Politics recently reported, the NRA’s PAC has been among the leading recipients of contributions from police officers this election cycle. That backing is borne from deep, longstanding ties to police, a constituency the NRA has trained, armed, and enlisted to fight its cultural and political battles.

7 cops outside the door at 11:35 they get shot at, they hear more shots at 11:37, 11:40 and 11:44. They know kids are inside. More information is irrelevant.

Cops kick down doors to serve no knock or knock and announce warrants all the time. There are seven cops there within 4 minutes. More arrive by the minute to a total of 19 by 12:03. They could have asked one of these incoming fools for a door breaching tool if their 300+ pound bodies didn't work.

Is the problem cowardly cops or is the problem cowardly lawmakers?

GED or HS diploma is not educated. And doesn't exactly sit well with your stance.

I don't give two ***** if you don't like basketball takes...that is irrelevent.......

Most of the police force is frankly average IQ at best, doesn't mean all, but you can't tell me a small town like Uvalde with a police force of 4 has all the smartest people in town on the force.

Police Recruits average 98 in NY.

Feel free to educate yourself some.....as some departments turn down people for being TOO smart.....MEATHEADS needed, apply within.

Most cops are not stupid that’s not a fair assessment. They’re training makes them act in ways that are narrow minded

for the record I probably have more education and degrees than 99% of the population and can tell you that college is no longer an indicator or intelligence . I meet stupid ass college and grad kids every single day

I believe the majority of police to be of average intelligence, and it is getting worse.....

A degree is not necessarily an indicator of intelligence but it is more highly thought of then a HS degree, or the GED which are basically a joke, we should hold the police to higher standards.......

And they should not be turning down people because they are too smart.

Police are essentially government workers, they are paid by our tax dollars, that is not exactly getting out there in the private sector and making a go of it - it is a job that apparently you don't have to be too bright to do.

But but what about the good guy with a gun theory. A good guy with a gun will stop mass shootings

Seppuku would be an honorable, appropriate statement by the chief and some of these cops. But they're cowards and bureaucrats so the sentiment would be lost on them.

Typically the people who say that would say yes. Yes, the far right also has their anti-cop extreme libertarian angle but most of the GOP voters who say stuff like "good guy with a gun" are pro "law and order" aka law enforcement bootlicking.

Anyone care to elaborate on a couple questions? I haven't been obsessing over this story so I need some clarification.

Shooter makes his way into the school and ends up in room 111 and/or 112. He locks himself in. Are there kids in both rooms who made it out alive? Was the shooter in both 111 and 112, as in it was two rooms that shared a joining door? If the shooter did lock himself in with kids, why did he allow them to make calls? Im trying to make sense of this.

I have similar questions. I think I've read that a door joined 111 to 112 directly, and he could walk back and forth, so maybe kids tried making calls when he wasn't in their room. But what in the heck was the psychopath doing for an hour? Making social media posts?

If this is the case, it sounds more like a mass shooting turned hostage situation. Which helps explain why the police camped out instead of rushing in.

The timeline doesn't give any sort of communication that might have happened, except the one kid claiming that the cops said "yell if you need help!" before a kid yelled and got shot.
