I don't know crime stats, but Far west is nice, but the shuttle isn't so good. Too far, imo, though there are students that live in the Arboretum even. Lantana is a pretty good hike to UT, imo. I lived in Hyde Park, overall my favorite neighborhood. I could've gone vehicle-less if it had a few more restaurants and a cheaper grocery store. Keep in mind, 95% of the stuff in both areas is old and dumpy and expensive. If you're from Houston, even the far west area may seem old. [QUOTE = COHEN]WT... ... that came out of left field. What no love for Riverside? Cheap, completely furnished, 12 min bus ride when theres no traffic. E-bus goes there too so you dont have to worry about driving to 6th Th-Sat. West Campus = not furnished; too expensive; no cable or internet Far West = too far; not furnisedh; no cable or internet North Campus = not furnished; no cable or internet Riverside = cheap; closer than FW; furnished; cable internet; also after utilities, riverside is still cheaper than basic rent in North or West campus. What blows me away is that people dont understand that a 15 minute walk and a 15 minute bus ride take the same amount of time. They complain about how long it takes the riverside bus to bring them to campus but thats just how long it takes to walk from west campus.
When I was there, years ago, my wife lived at the Croix. I was there a lot. Short walk to class. Pretty nice. I think you're better off in hyde park, if you can get there, though. It's just cooler. Another sleeper neighborhood is maplewood south. Cool old fourplexes.
That WC bus is pretty crowded. I wouldn't live in WC to take the bus. I think "the walk to school" thing is more of just a thing to say, rather than it being a real big deal. I know alot of people say that, but they don't realize that a bus from NC may be faster. "walk to school" just sounds cool.
