i actually like this series the most. i'd love for the refs to allow more physical contact on the perimeter and let the players play. the only problem is that they're so awfully inconsistent that they'll let carlos boozer completely wipe out a player on one end then get battier on the other for breathing on ak47. it's just stupid. leave it one way or the other but don't flip-flop on the way you're going to call it.
I was so hoping that Tmac would have pushed AK47 in the chest after he pulled and pushed at Tracy down the stretch in game 3, then got that offensive foul. Someone needs to get pushed in their chest and punked by a Rocket... Like Chuck Hayes needs to throw Okur to the ground for sure...
I'm ore upset that they have the game on NBAtv. now I have to leave the luxury of my living room to find a place to watch the game.
Thanks for the alert, will use my old TV in basement for game 5. If we loose, will damage it, garbage truck will pick it up Wednesday because it is the CLEANOUT DAY of my town.
its the inconsistency that is pissing me off more than anything. the type of contact the jazz are allowed to get away with before a foul is called compared to the type the rockets are allowed to get away with is like night and day. I believe someone else posted at the jazz are actually are more than 2 fouls below their season average while the rockets are average about 3 more fouls. thats ridiculous right now, as physical as the jazz play they should be at least at their season average. yeah maybe they call less in the playoffs but then by the same idea then the rockets should be well under their season average too, not above it. a discrepancy of 5 fouls a game is significant (+3 and -2) thats a potential 10 FTA right there in a series where the winning margins have been 11,6,2 and 4. honestly tomorrow night if the refs are going to allow what has been going on I really do hope that adeleman sends in a guy or two to send a hard foul to any of the jazz players. Sort of like the foul dirk layed on AK or carmello on deron. I do not want to see the rockets start flopping the way the jazz do it would sicken me to see the entire team act that way. Scola flops enough for the entire team but he at least usually flops where there is a decent of contact to his body, not like the jazz do who flop like they were shot when someone brushs their body. 3-1 isnt going to be easy at all, but its not impossible either. The advantage we have is that we only have to win one in utah and the team has played really well up there and could have won both games if not for a few unlucky bounces and calls. /end rant by I totally agree with DD its really painful to watch the jazz just do as they please without any consequences. the recent quotes by the jazz players seem to be laughing at the team, esp tmac about it too.
You guys really crack me up with all of this complaining about the refs. Gee, the officiating in the NBA is bad. How shocking! Does David Stern know about this? I mean, come on: exactly where have you folks been for the past 10 years? In Siberia? I simply don't understand what you want to happen here Dakota. If you want them to call the games closer, them you have to be prepared for more calls on the Rockets as well because they are getting the benefits of no calls as well. Course, if that were to happen, then we'd see threads complaining that the officials are calling TOO many fouls on the Rockets.
In fact, I think this series is the intensest. So far, no single game is blow-out. All games the players fight till the last second. Similar to last year, I think this series will last for 6-7 games. The two teams are really close. Even the rockets are 1-3 now, but there are 2 of 3 games will play in Houston. The key is whether Houston can win one more game in Utah. If so, I believe we will win Game 7 as well.
Here's the funny part....Both of them DIDN'T flop that time and Scola still got called for the foul. On top of my list for worse foul of the year.
i never like to watch physical and dirty bball games. my preference would be the style like adelman's kings. i can take the "boring" spurs, but not the ugly jazz. (sloan said after game 4 that he really enjoyed it.) it's just me, though.
DD Its so bad watching the Refs turninga BLIND eye to what is going on that I am thinking that some big money must have been bet on this game. Sorry Refs but you'r letting all this dirty play go by without calling it as you should be seeing it.Y
like some others have already said, i dont mind having a physical series. it just pisses me off to no end that one team gets to play like the 90s Knicks and the other team gets called like they're playing a whole team of iversons. im hoping it gets a little better for game 5 in houston, but if it doesnt we need to start doing something major, i.e. flagrant fouls, a fight, etc. if we're going to get ticky tack calls on us anyway, why not make sure they jazzholes feel it and remember that the next time they try to flop?
Actually, I think they move it because they believe this is not the last game of the series. If we can win game 6 in Utah, game 7 could be shown on ABC this sunday.
DD, as usual, another astute post. The refs use the excuse that they could call a foul every trip down the court. That would really stink... for about a month. Players and coaches would QUICKLY learn to just stop fouling all the time; it would lose the NBA a ton of money. Otherwise, they'd just change the rules. Of course, if they did that and the game was truly cleaned up, the game would look like it did in the 50s. What do I want? I don't care HOW much contact they allow as long as they're CONSISTENT. If the refs are going to be incompetent, fine. Just make sure they're CONSISTENTLY incompetent about the same things. But this crap where Scola gets mauled at one end of the court and called for a foul or mauled at one and and called for a touch foul at the other end has to stop. Maybe we could have robots call the game. That would be awesome.
if you believe that "refs are calling it evenly" then there is no issue. NBA fouls have always been at the discretion of the refs, if they choose to allow a more physical series the league office will have no problem with it... with the magical stipulation that "refs are calling it evenly." that's always been the bailout caveat for crappy NBA officiating... "refs calling it evenly" the idea that officials can overlook or blow as many calls as they want as long as it meets some magical criteria of being "even" for both teams... personally from what I've seen of the NBA it's bull****. it's practically impossible for refs to call it evenly. if nothing else because the importance of the 4th quarter is so predominant in the NBA. really the only fair thing would be to officiate all fouls clearly by the rules without any leeway and without any thought on calling it "even." trying to even out calls inevitably means makeup calls and different-standard calls as the games and series go on... also asking the refs to dial back contact in this series in de facto asking them to give houston an advantage as Utah's built their team around being able to get away with an enormous amount of legal and illegal contact in the playoffs. and the league has allowed them to do this in the past. because houston and other teams as well as utah expect this, to disallow this would actually be punishing utah (unfairly IMO). if they actually had intentions to clean this up it should have been manifest during the season ideally, and at the latest in game 1. you cant really go into game 5 and say "no more contact." obviously I hate utah but that's exactly the kind of crap that makes the NBA suspect obviously since the league isn't going to change and start calling the series clean or by the book the adjustment they need to make is to allow scola to play more physical and call his flops. scola picking up 5 fouls while harpring, boozer and 3 other guys are mugging him all game sure as hell aint "even." I would LOOOOOOOOOVE if the refs would actually call it "even" let scola play that would even things up a bit
DD, you are right. I cannot watch this stuff anymore. It's ugly. Too ugly. For the over-abundance of contact in this series, they should have called it by the book from the get-go. Every time. Since that will never happen, I guess I'll just whine in the corner everytime wrest... er basketball is on TV. For flopping, the solution is easy. Have the league office review each and every game for egregarious flops. Hand out 1-game suspensions until that pansy **** stops.
The only consolation I have is that the officiating is not as bad as the 2005 Mavs-Rockets series. Just thinking about how that series was stolen from us still makes my blood boil. The officiating in this series has been really bad, though I wouldn't say it's biased. We've gotten away with some things and so have the Jazz. However, it's very frustrating that they will call tissue-paper fouls one minute and the next minute ignore a right hook into Landry's teeth. It really seems like the refs are blindly guessing, except for the makeup calls, which they fabricate on purpose.
