I agree with you but if you can free up 10 more in capspace for the upcoming free agency then that is just to good to pass up. But I would also like to more playing time for the rookies. Patterson is a late first maybe and Morris also but more likely a early second for him.

Anyone here still think Lin is MASSIVELY overpaid now? where is Curry tonight? All I am asking you is being reasonable.

You must be blind if you insist. I am not a big Lin fan here, and you are turning me into one:grin: Thanks.

Just let me change this to Harden, does it make sense for you.
I can tell you Harden is bad man on man defender. Average finisher around the rim with a low basketball I.Q. continues the same mistakes over and over when he gets to the rim. Average foot speed and a bad jumpshot.[/QUOTE]

? Harden is excellent around rim as he gets easy layup or draws contact a lot. We aren't talking one game either.

Exactly, it doesn't make sense at all. '

Trust me, you fellas will love Millsap once he plays for our team. He's a rich man's Carl Landry. ;)

Why did this become a Lin thread? Take it to Dei's thread!

Back on topic - what do you guys think would be an acceptable (but also reasonable) price to pay for Millsap?

If Millsap was already on a 4yr/$32mil contract, I would definitely trade Lin and Patterson for him. Trading that package now, when Millsap will be a free agent in a few months and could conceivably get an offer that's too rich for the Rockets is simply bad planning. Lin/Patterson might not be worth much, but they're definitely worth more than nothing.

By the way, if Millsap stays put until the summer, we won't have his bird rights and no one will be able to offer him a 5yr contract (since its looking like the Jazz are not interested) which may be beneficial to us in Morey's eyes.

I believe Dei's thread was deleted by mod. About time!

Millsap price is in the range of 10 mil/year. Between Smith's 15 mil and Milsap 10 Mil, I would take Millsap!

Acquiring Paul Millsap would mean the management wants this team to make the playoffs this year for sure.

    Pros:

    - Millsap has an expiring contract. Means we'd still have max cap space this coming off-season which is golden nowadays in the league. Basically, make the playoffs as a 5th or 6th seed at best but could possibly still bow out in the 1st round.

    Cons:

    - We sacrifice some of our assets when you have the option to just sign him in the off-season (which i doubt since i believe Morey would want to hold on to that max cap space for a max salary franchise type of player to pair with James Harden).

Personally, i'd rather have us keep all our assets intact and settle for a minor trade such as acquiring a solid role player on a lesser expiring contract to solidify this current roster for that low playoff seed push and/or acquire a future 1st round pick by using our cap flexibility through facilitating deals with other teams who would want to dump salary.

Let's face it, we will not win the championship this year nor maybe even next. So we have to be patient and wait for that 2nd franchise type of player to add to our team. We now have the luxury to wait with this current team we have now so, there's really no point in settling for short term moves like acquiring players who would make us a solid team(take the Grizzlies with Gay for example and see how that worked out for them) but not good enough to beat real contenders like Miami or OKC.

The better question is who are the Rockets not interested in?

    Thanks for the detailed answer!

I'm on the fence. We really do have a hole at the PF position (though PPatt lately has stepped up - we've seen it before - is it sustainable?) and it needs to be filled ASAP. However, I would hate to lose DMo or Jones. Leveraging the future for the present is not a good idea in this league unless it wins you rings. I'm ok with giving up some cap space cause I believe Morey can trade assets with the best of them and this team won't contend for another 2-3 years. But giving up young promising assets would put a ceiling on the franchise.

So I guess I'm ok with getting Millsap as long as the price is cheap enough - we can always flip him later.

Thank God some of you don't work for our front office. Are you really willing to overpay for an inconsistent player who's stats have declined steadily the past 2 seasons. Meanwhile, trading away two starters in Lin and Patterson, who are younger and have way more upside. You can't be serious.

They can have Aldrcih, Douglas, Morris, Beverly and off course White...all or any combination to make it work for Millsap....plus second round pick(s). I'll do it...

Yes, I still think he's over-paid. One game isn't gonna change that. If he keeps playing that way obviously he'll prove me wrong. Here's to hoping he stay hot and plays well the rest of the way!

List of other NBA point guards who are being paid as much as Jeremy Lin..

    Jameer Nelson - $8.6m
    Rodney Stuckey - $8.5m
    Mo Williams - $8.5m
    Devin Harris - $8.5

Heck, i'd take Lin over those players any day. Lets not forget that Lin still hasn't had a full season of NBA experience yet. On potential alone, he trumps all those guys. And it goes way beyond the stats as well. Lin gives a team an identity, charisma, and a certain magic that you seldom see nor get from a player.
