    I'm with you:

    a) no McGrady to the jazz
    b) why the hell would we want Cry-me-a-river-lenko on the Rockets?

    Ugh all the way around.

And of course we would still have our OWN 1st round pick.

    yes

    maybe

...you guys are f***** nuts with this "don't trade with Utah" crap. If it came out to AK47+NY's 1st for Mc, I would do it faster then Usain Bolt can run 10m.

It's obvious we all overrated Mac's contract...best offer I remember on the table was something like Al Harrington+Q-Rich.

Not to draw some flames, but uh, I think T-Mac is worth a little more than just Kirilenko or Kirilenko/pick/scrub/whatever. I don't know...

Absolutely. So you're looking at our pick which would likely be anywhere from 8-14, the Knicks' pick, which could be as high as top 3, Kirilenko at still only 29, Ariza, Yao, and the rest of our pieces in tact for futher moves. I can't think of a better scenario than that, honestly, as any move to acquire Bosh via trade or free agency would require losing a few of our big pieces.

And after that season AK would be 16M expiring.

It's just unethical, The Jazz man.... How would it feel if Obama told you to permanently move to Utah, You would want to kill yourself before it happens right? I mean no man deserves to play for that team, and especially not a Houston Rocket. I don't wish that on anyone.

I'm thinking 2011 will be the time to have cap room.
I predict the economic problems will stop the studs from opting out.

Well, let's put it this way. The Jazz are already over the luxury tax threshold right now with the decisions by Carlos Boozer, Mehmet Okur and Kyle Korver to all opt in to their contracts and the Deron Williams extension kicking in. If other teams come with an offer sheet starting at around $8-10M for Millsap, it will cost the Jazz $16-20M to keep Millsap FOR NEXT YEAR ALONE. And if the Jazz don't match an offer sheet for Millsap, they will likely lose Boozer to free agency in 2010 and be completely without a PF for the future. That is, unless they're comfortable with Kirilenko moving back to PF. But given the bad feelings between AK-47 and the Jazz, he'll probably bolt in 2011.

So if Les and the Rockets are willing to take back the maximum of contractual commitments for next year, that move would save the Jazz as much as $26M for NEXT YEAR. Combine that with getting out from under Kirilenko's 2010-11 salary, and the Utah Jazz save a total of up to $42M with this trade.

Would YOU trade a high lottery pick for $42M in cash savings??? If I were the Jazz owner, I would.

^^^Sorry, that is wrong. My bad. The trade would probably save the Jazz about $12M next year ($6M in salaries plus another $6M in luxury tax), plus the insurance money on T-Mac's contract. So, if McGrady misses 2/3rds of the season, that comes out to about $28M or so in total savings next year.

Add that to Kirilenko's 2010-11 salary, and the total cash savings could be as high at $44M. Of course, if T-Mac miraculously comes back at the start of the regular season, that financial benefits drops down to about $30M.

kirilenko is a good versatile player, great defender, but he's not a good fit with the rockets now that they have ariza.

he would be an amazing fit in portland though, they should have traded raef's contract for him and portland would be a championship contender.

Thanks for the breakdown. I believe you proposed such a trade in one of the other threads. You have convinced me of Utah's desperation, but such a deal would seem like a complete no-brainer from the Rockets' perspective as well, wouldn't you agree? I can't see greater return on 'Grady than that pick plus the future flexibility Kiri's contract might afford you the following season as an expiring in its own right.

I want to keep McGrady and his expiring.

Altough I would like to see McGrady exiled to Utah or Memphis.

Because McGrady screwed the Rox out of the VC trade last year by shopping doctors until he found one that would do the microfracture surgey.

Does anybody think it was a coincedence that McGrady announced he needed surgery at the trade deadline?

    Thereby making him untradeable.
