Kirilenko needs a PG to create shots for him, otherwise he becomes almost useless on offense. He can defend, but his idiotic flopping is highly annoying to say the least. There are two players that I'm interested in, Brewer who I would have taken instead of Battier in the draft and Fesenko. The unprotected NY 1st rounder is very tempting. Since none of these things are likely to happen, this discussion is a moot point for me now.
If the Jazz are that desperate to dump Kirilenko's huge contract (they are facing some serious luxury tax concerns, especially if they re-sign Millsap), the "extra chip" I'd want from Utah is the Knicks' unprotected 2010 first round draft pick. Don't think the Jazz will give it up, though. Next to Deron Williams, that might be the single most significant asset that Utah owns. Actually, I think the Jazz might give some strong consideration to that trade, as silly as that sounds. This move instantly saves the Jazz over $2.7M for next season under the salary cap, which equates to $5.4M, since the Jazz are already over the luxury tax threshold. Plus, the insurance payments on T-Mac's contract provide Utah with plenty of extra cash flow to re-sign Paul Millsap, take their one-time luxury tax beating next season, and continue on into the future with Millsap as their starting PF after Boozer leaves next summer. The biggest benefits to Utah would be next summer, when the Jazz would be free of Kirilenko's $17.8M salary and could be the biggest player in 2010 free agency. In essence, a trade like that would be Okur/Kirilenko for T-Mac/Millsap. For the Jazz's long-term future, they'd possibly make that move.
WOW Kirilenko and filler for TMAC...no freaking way but if you throw in Okur then it would be interesting but still pass....It would make some since for them because they want to keep there core in tact next summer.
since we got Ariza, there's no need for us to put 3 tough defenders in the team. PLUS,if we really need to trade McGrady,we must get another play-maker.I am sorry Kirilenko isn't that kind.
Believe it or not, the first thing that enters my mind when I read this is, How good will Utah be next year? Because I really hate that g.d. team and want them to never have success. It's not too big a deal, I suppose. Tracy McGrady is playoffs kryptonite. But on that team, he'd be awesome (if he returns healthy). I don't think he'd stick around, though. He'd drive Sloan to retirement. Tmax would choose another destination when his contract expires. Obviously the Jazz are looking for the salary cap relief. If Kirilenko + another good player is the deal, and if a third team like Toronto were involved (European and Argentine players like Toronto) so we could get Bosh, and if we didn't have to give up too many low-contract guys in the process, and if Luis Scola never, never, never wears a Jazz uniform......maybe.
Actually, Kirilenko's best years came when he DIDN'T have a PG who dominated the ball and created for others. His truly amazing stretch (when he was seemingly single-handedly making popular the 5-by-5 stat line) began in 2003 (once Stockton retired) and went through 2006 (Deron Williams's rookie season, when he only started 47 games after guys like Keith McLeod and Milt Palacio started ahead of him most of the season). So, what I'm trying to say is . . . the opposite of what you said.
Not enough??? That draft pick could potentially be the Rockets' next franchise player! The Rockets aren't going to set the world on fire next season anyway. They can pick up some center off the free agent scrap heap. Come the 2010 NBA Draft, the Rockets could be ushering in "The [Insert High Draft Pick] Era".
Andre and Okur for TMac works in the ESPN trade machine. Where is this story coming from that the Jazz want TMac to begin with?
I was wondering to myself if we could maybe land Boozer by swallowing AK's contract. From the looks of this report I guess not. McGrady's contract just doesn't seem as valuable as I presumed it would be. Maybe at the deadline we can swing something more substantial.
