Mock sucks. Why did he play so much? I haven't seen an answer to this yet. How 'bout when the guy blitzes, gets blocked and falls down, then gets up and still sacks Mock, who just stood there the whole time? And he always looks like he's b****ing at someone when he screws up. He's always yelling at the sidelines.
Keyword being "names". Also, top to bottom, that class was Mack's weakest, if you don't include the 98 class. UT had a lot of Rivals 3-stars from that class. It was really top-heavy as well as heavy on numbers, which gave it an overrated ranking.
that is completely wrong! it was the two. so we rollout which hadn't worked all night and then run some horrible pass play (i can't even remeber it right now) and of course don't score. did we really have 22 straight pass plays? i've seen greg davis abandon the run quickly before, but i don't think anyone in history has ever ababoned a running game that was working that quickly while the team was only down 3 and there was still almost a whole half to go. i hate mack's incessant clapping and "that fumble's ok son" attitude but if we had anybody (perhaps the famous autistic chimp from lfz) besides greg davis calling plays and to a lesser extent (though still a huge problem against any team that can pass well) reese running the D we would be so much better. mack brings in the talent, his coaches let him down. though mack lets us down by letting friendship override the need to fire them. of course, a lot of people expected 3 losses this season and now that it's come to fruition it's the worst thing in the world. at least this season isn't a total loss. the greatest team of all time's little piece of crystal is fairly meaningless now with usc winning the rose bowl.
It all starts at the top. Why shouldn't Mack be fired? He doesn't change and he doesn't hold people accountable. His attitude seeps down to the players. Texas should recruit itself with the facilities, fanbase, city, education, and girls. If people are satisified with a talented, underachieving team who will never seriously contend for a national championship then keep Mack. We're not going to be much better than this year. Of course we have some even better recruiting classes like '02 which will start to play more. So that might buy him some more time, but people have been saying this since 2001. 2002 I thought to just get rid of Davis. Then Davis and Reese after the Arkansas game. After the OU game, it became pretty clear Mack has really peaked. Unless you're satisfied with the status quo or want to live in the past, it's time to get a new coach and staff. Of course it's wishful thinking, because nothing's going to happen.
My mistake...I was just pretty sure it was closer than the 5. Of course, I stick with my reasoning even if it were at the 5. The team really did end the game with 22 straight pass plays. I really don't understand how Davis has a job. It's inexplicable. I'm a high school junior, who has watched football for a relatively short time, and even I think Davis misses out on the obvious. We had to go two yards with four plays, and he calls two passing plays? I understand how crowded the box was, but I think with four tries, someone could have run it in. Looking ahead(A common theme for Longhorn fans), I foresee 3 losses prior to bowl season next year if no coaching changes are made. And that number would be four if Symons had another year. I realize the aggie-ness in this statement, but I am rooting for a LSU win. Sure...Sooner can still point at us and laugh, but it will be one less piece of hardware they can claim.
No way. Vince Young is special, he is the future of this program and for anyone to suggest Chance Mock should have started is crazy. He can throw the ball too. Look at the OSU game and the KSU game winning drive. It's just Greg Davis is more conservative than a republican on election day. He is the worst offensive coordinator in D-1 imho. It's not vince's fault greg doesn't think he can pass, even though he was a passing quarterback at Madison. It's greg davis who calls that draw play over and over, it's davis who thinks Roy Williams is a decoy and should be used only on 2 yard routes, even though he could beat any cornerback in the country. I swear UT was playing a pac ten defense tuesday, but the way Davis called the game, I guess WAZZU switched conferences during the time off before the game. Book it: Roy Williams if he stays healthy will be the best wide receiver 10 years from now in the NFL Draft. People wouldn't be talking Fitzgerald or Mike Williams except Greg Davis wasted Roy Williams talent. He even brainwashed him to think that the best play for the team is the WR screen when everyone blocks and he scores. Ugh. Finally, Chance Mock is Rob Johnson Jr. Did you not see him run an extra 6 or 7 steps in the endzone to almost get UT a foolish safety in the WSU game. Then you have K-State where he took at least a couple 15-20 yard sacks when he could have thrown the ball away. The crowd at DKR literally cheered when Vince came in and threw the ball away when chased out of the pocket his first play from scrimmage. At this point, I want Chance Mock out of Texas. I don't care where, I don't care how, get him away from UT. What the coaches did tuesday night was embarrassing, to say the least. Chance Mock should have sat on the sidelines, even if it meant Vince went threw some growing pains. Chance Mock is not the starting quarterback and shouldn't ever be. Quarterbacks like Young are special, Chance Mock is rather ordinary. I'm willing to take my chance with Vince and no depth rather than have this incredibly stupid rotating quarterback crap. If Texas somehow pulls out Xavier Lee at the last minute, then I will personally escort Mock out of Austin for good. But there is no way Mock was the better quarterback this year, even though he gave UT an extra win against Tech. And to be honest, I thought that was incredibly lame to do that against Tech. Vince could have directed that drive on the charmin soft defense but Greg Davis doesn't think he can pass because he has never let him pass. I don't hate Mock, but if he is an excuse for the coaches to not play Young, I don't want him around. Plain and simple.
Agreed DV. Moch is an erratic thrower even with time who thinks he is more athletic than he is (takes big losses trying to run away from D1 LBS which he can't). There are a minimum of 50 better DV 1 QBs. I think I heard in media outlets he wants to leave so he can improve his "pro standing". He has even less pro standing than Chris Rix and Brock Berlin have pro standing, which is next to none and none, respectively. If he isn't happy being the back-up up QB, getting PT in out of contest games or being ready to help Texas in case of injury to VY he isn't much of a Longhorn blue blood as portrayed. Granted I hope this isn't true (media reports of him leaving), from what I have seen he has conducted himself well on the sidelines (e.g., supporting VY), so I hope the latter is the case. I honestly don't think firing all of Mack's assistant is the answer, the problems start at the top. I'd look at guys who have been very successful (multiple years track record preferrable) given sometimes terrible programs before they got there and who are always prepared on game day--e.g., the Iowa guy, Maryland guy, Belotti, Tressel or maybe Richt, Alvarez, Tiller, Snyder or Mason. The only guys on this list UT should have any trouble landing would be Tressel (he is an Ohio homeboy at a school with about equal resources) or possibly Richt (may want to stay in the SEC and I assume Georgia would pay big bucks to keep him). I'd also prefer a guy slightly on the younger, intense, more energetic side (Iowa guy, Tressel, Belotti) than the older less energetic guy (Alvarez, Tiller, Snyder) but need not eliminate the latter.
I disagree. I think if you gave Rix a real QB coach, he could be a decent backup/fringe starter in the NFL. Problem is that his QB coach is only a coach because he is Bowden's son.
