I want to replace GD also, but we are very close to winning it all this year. Well, as close as we've been since....I don't know, 83?? I will gladly take Greg Davis for ten more years if it means we win the championship this year. Talent wise, Texas's weapons get even more lethal next year.
What big games has Mack Brown had a realistic chance talent wise to win, but hasn't come through? Don't mention UNC playing FSU. Those North Carolina teams didn't have half the talent of Florida State. Don't mention Nebraska in 1999 championship-- again, much more experience and talent. Don't tell me about the bowl game vs. Oregon last year-- can't blame him for Roy and BJ dropping wide open touchdowns. The only big game Mack Brown arguably should've won, but didn't, was against OU this year. And if you watched that game, that falls all on the shoulders of Greg Davis. We played a good team close throughout, and just came up a little short in the end. He lost one game. Big ****ing deal. We still proved to be better than OU, anyway. I wouldn't trade Mack Brown for any other coach in the country (of course considering recruiting as a part of it)
Fine. When Texas wins, I think it would be appropriate for you to write a post, or put something in your signature acknowledging that you were completely and totally wrong about this and that you know nothing about college football, and also acknowledge my obvious superiority when it comes to College Football knowledge, feel free to also mention my dashing charm and incredible charisma while you're at it. Should their be an upset, I will do likewise.
I'll write one with you. Or, we can cut and past our combined posts. I have confident in UT, but I also know anything can happen in a game. If CU beats UT, I'll do the same as you.
That is why the game is so important on Saturday. We have an opportunity to play in the Rose Bowl. A win, Texas will have a conference title and a BCS bowl bid. An improvement over the last 3 years under Mack. I don't want to sound cocky, but we are playing Colorado. We should win this game. A loss, we will be back to last year. Yeah, a possible 11 wins, top 10 finish, and Holiday Bowl trophy is nice however we will keep asking ourselves "What might have happened?" It doesn't get any easier next year. We can't be satisfied with a loss. Changes have to be made if it gets to that point. Talent does us no good if we can't win. That's all I'm saying. I fear our offense will sputter vs. CU but we will win because CU can't match up with us. I found a weird coincidence: 98 @ Neb W 99 Neb W 99 Neb L 00 @ Col W 01 Col W 01 Col ? Before winning in 00, Colorado beat us in 96 and 97. It's not the same team or the same coaching staff on either side, but interesting.
That is why the game is so important on Saturday. We have an opportunity to play in the Rose Bowl. Sadly, there's one sucky scenario that's not too likely, but possible. Should Miami lose, Texas win, Oregon lose (possible), and Tennesse lose, Nebraska might still pass us for the Rose Bowl. Why? We're about 1.8 points ahead of Nebraska right now. If Oregon & Tennessee lose, Nebraska gains two spots on us in the polls (they move up, we stay still) -- that's 2 points in the BCS right there. To make it worse, Oklahoma would likely move up in that scenario, increasing Nebraska's bonus points from Quality Wins. On the other side, a win over Colorado doesn't move us in the polls. We'll gain ground in the computers and schedule strength, but lose the 0.9 quality win points we have (or at least a significant portion of it). One thing that could help us in this scenario is Miami barely losing and falling between us & Nebraska in the polls, giving us a bit of a buffer. Regardless, I think UT fans need to be Oregon fans this weekend as well.
RM95, Puedlfor, and gr8-1: In reading past history on the BBS, the best bet I saw was the one where people had to change their handles. For example, HeyPartner became crispee, DaDakota became BahDakota, etc. Pued, you were in on this bet, weren't you? If Rocketman95 loses (ie Texas wins) then he needs to change his handle and start over with his post count. If Pued and gr8-1 lose (ie Colorado wins) then they need to change their handles and start over with their post counts. That would make for an interesting bet.
Nope, not doing it. If I was rooting for Colorado, maybe, but I want Texas to win. I'm just not a sheep when it comes to Mack Brown. I think the guy's not as great a head coach, as evidenced by his lack of ever winning a conference championship.
shanna-- in the scenario you mentioned, if miami lost, wouldn't we then move up at least 1 spot in the polls? you said nebraska would move up, but we wouldn't. but if miami lost [part of your scenario], it seems to me we would move up one. how would that effect that whole situation that you were describing? no matter what, there is nothing even remotely clear about the bcs. . . except for that, if florida and miami win out, they're in the rose bowl. I think that is certain.
rm95's no sheep when it comes to mack brown; he's just a chicken when it comes to backing up all that ridiculous anti-mack smack he's been spouting off. do the bet, man. and if you lose, I propose your new handle has to be: thegreatnessofmackbrown or. . . mackbrown'sbitch or. . . notsohardmack
Still not going to do it. A. I want Texas to win. I want my team in the BCS, and possibly the Rose Bowl...that would be amazing. B. I've already stated that Mack Brown would gain a ton of respect from me if UT wins this game, and especially if they won their BCS game. He just hasn't won the big game in his career, not once...I hope he reverses that tomorrow.
Are you completely deranged? You may not be a sheep, but you're definitely a parrot, repeating the same poorly thought-out cliches about Mack Brown that Aggies and Sooners everywhere love so much.
Are you posting drunk again? It's funny how you call me a parrot, yet you can't name one big game that Mack Brown has won...because he hasn't.
you said nebraska would move up, but we wouldn't. but if miami lost [part of your scenario], it seems to me we would move up one. how would that effect that whole situation that you were describing? I was assuming Miami would fall behind Nebraska as well, so that was nullified by both of us gaining a spot (Nebraska would gain two more spots on us by passing Oregon and Tennessee). If Miami were to barely lose or whatever, then that was the scenario where they might fall between us and Nebraska which would be the best-case for us. Regardless, the CollegeBCS.com guy (who's the expert on this) disagrees and doesn't think it's possible for a Nebraska to pass under any circumstance us if we beat Colorado. I hope he's right!
you can't name one big game that Mack Brown has won...because he hasn't. Nebraska, 1999. Nebraska went 11-1 that year and was considered by many to be best team in the nation and more deserving of a Fiesta Bowl berth than VaTech. They lost that chance by losing to us. If that doesn't count, what is your criteria for "big game"?
This should be one of the best Big XII title games ever, and is certainly one of the most 'talent-packed' (not sure if that's a real word , but both teams have numerous NFL prospects, more than a NU-OU matchup would have). UT - 45 CU - 35 It'll be a shoot-out, but UT has too many offensive weapons for CU. And UT has to run the ball. Don't bail on the running game.
