I think he was brought in by Mack

Brown is too loyal to Davis. Davis has been his OC at Tulane (I think), UNC, and now UT. The only way to get rid of Davis, is to get rid of Mack. Mack will not fire him, ever.

How much of the bad playcalling is a result of Davis, and how much of it is the result of the coaching staff not having enough confidence in Simms? No one was calling for Davis' job until Simms started choking in big games.

    Very good point...

What I also would bring up, is the fact that Major Applewhite did pretty good under Davis, with less talent around him, than Simms has right now.

Hell, Applewhite as a RS frosh, was better than Simms as a Sr.

You can blame the system/playcalling all you want, but the fact that Davis has had success at UT in the past (98 and 99) makes me wonder if the problem really is him.

For all we know, Vincent Young, and all his ability, might make Greg Davis look like a genius.

What I am really surprised about is how people complain about Greg Davis' conservative playcalling, but then don't realize that for today's game, it was probably the right thing to do -- only we couldn't run the ball!

That is a huge problem IMO. Our O-line just doesn't seem to blow people off the ball to get Ced some room. Granted, this was against a terrific OU defense, but Ced didn't fare too well against North Texas either, and his yds per carry are not where you would like them to be.

The only prob I had with UT's playcalling, is that they tried to establish the run for too long. After 2 Q's, just give up on it already.

Some more play actions would have helped, as well as misdirection plays. Does every running play have to be between the tackles?

Well they actually ran a few cutesy misdirection toss sweep kind of plays -- but I don't think Ced is the back to do those with -- I'd much rather see Selvin Young be the player to give those to.

Are you guys watching the Red River Wrapup show on Fox SW?

Winfred Tubbs (cousin of Marcus), former UT player, is speaking the truth about Brown and Simms. I hope it shocks people a former player doesn't think highly of Brown and Simms.

I missed it. What did he say?

I'm sure it will shock those UT fans who STILL are blind and oblivious.

Mack Brown does NOT suck-- not at rationalizing defeat, at least.

It's OK that we lost this game, because we will win lots of games against Kansas and Missouri and Texas Tech. Don't you guys get it? 11-2 is great! Who cares if you lose to your arch-rival every single year in the most important game of the year?

Why don'tcha ask John Cooper about that, Mack?

He said Brown was outcoached for the 3rd year in a row. He said Stoops is a better coach. He said Mack telling Simms to kneel before the half speaks for itself (bad coaching). He said Simms will go down as another high rated prospect who couldn't win the big game.

What was really annoying about this game was Simms had a bad day (life goes on) - the commentators were focused on discussing how this performance would effect his draft position next year. I don't think a single UT fan was concerned about Simms future in the NFL. Also, why didn't we go for 2 at the end?

    BK -
There's a hidden irony in your statement. The Wolverines had many, many native Ohioans on their teams just as OU had/has many native Texans.

Ugh, I just thought of another irony...Stoops and his entire staff are from Ohio...

Stoops, Venables and Mangino are common athletic names back in Ohio...

Makes you kind of wonder, what if there were no schollie limits, like back in the day...

I would think that several OU players from TX, mainly the Houston area, would be on UT.

OU's players except for a Tommie Harris-type, are guys who UT passed up on offering scholarships to.

Simms problem is balance, he goes down too easily and does not have the ability to slide in the pocket and throw off balance.

He is the weakest QB as far as balance goes that I have ever seen, one whiff from an opposing player and he goes down.

    Vincent Young is the answer.

V Young is Michael Vick #2 - His High school stats were just insane, I wish Mack would get him out there for a few plays at least.

Both of these excellent points lead to one thing. Chris Simms is not a good quarterback. He has a gun, and nothing else. He is not accurate, he cannot scramble or throw on the run, his release is too slow, and for a 6'5 guy, his passes get tipped by the opposing d-line all the time. I'm glad UT does not have to put up with this crap next year.

In the thread link below, I said Nate Hybl was a piece of crap.

    http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/showthread.php?s=&threadid=41353

Well, I was right. He did his best to give UT the game with his 4 INTs. I would have never thought OU would beat Texas with Nate Hybl throwing 4 INTs (but that show how bad the offense is when Chris Simms is under center)

I also said Simms can not get it done. I was right there also, and yet some here and on hornfans continue to disagree with me. You'd think they would be smarter than that.

OU's offense scored 35 meaningful points, whereas UT's offense scored just 10 meaningful points. End of Story.

Bye, Bye Chris. take your good guy skills into the business world because I don't see NFL in your future.

    1) Reggie McNeal is everything he was billed as.
    2) WHOOP!!!!!!!! :D

Today I got to sit next to the UT band, and I have to say...all the Sooners jokes about the females members being dykes are true!

The Baylor mascot "Judge" is hilarious. You want to make fun of him, but he was making fun of himself the whole time (playing dead, running into the goalpost, holding a "Texas" sign, trying to get with our cheerleaders, etc.).
