I don't understand the references to his NFL career. As we've been shown time and time again, with guys like Spurrier, the NFL and NCAA are two completely different animals. Greg Robinson is a terrific defensive coach at the NCAA level. I wish him the best of luck at the Cuse.
They gave up at least 27 points in 8 of the last 10 games, including 30 in week 16. I don't care who the defensive coorindinator is, with that talent, they're not going to be able to do much.
Robinson's scheme at Texas was completely different than the "Read and React" philosophy he used with the Chiefs. It was a basic scheme designed to hit the gaps hard with stunts and disguised blitzes. The 2004 Horns defense was light years ahead of the Bull Reese "mugging the MLB" defense.
I still think the guy is overrated. And I am so confident of that, that I am willing to make a tip jar bet that Greg Robinson's 1st 2 years will be worse than what Paul Pasqualoni's career percentage at Syracuse was which was 64.5% or 107-59-1. So to win, the Robinson supporters have to have his team go 15-9 (actually 16-8, but I won't haggle about rounding down) in his 1st 24 games. If that happens, I will donate $50 bucks to the tip jar. If I win, then all of the people who take me up on this will have to donate $50 EACH. Anyone game to do this with me? Do you have that much confidence in ole Greggy?
Never said he'd be a great head coach or even a good head coach. But as a collegiate defensive coordinator, he kicked much ass.
what is your major malfunction? we don't really give a damn what he did in denver or kc. we don't really give a damn what he's going to do at syracuse. we do give a damn what he did in his one year here, which was improve the defense and always seem to make great halftime adjustments and he was very enthusiastic and in to it on the sideline. people like him for that. no one has to spoken to anything other than what he did for us this year, which was good. you seem to have a vendetta against him or something. by your logic, all washington redskins fans should be absolutely thrilled that joe gibbs is their coach. after all, he won numerous super bowls in the past and was successful with their team in the past. present results are nothing to base present feelings on apparently.
That doesn't explain Bull Reese. Robinson worked wonders. I don't know why some people are having a tough time getting over his pro experience and realizing he will be a big loss at Texas.
Hey, I understand that you don't give a damn about what he did in Denver or KC (great way to start an argument btw, f4p), but not everyone here worships the University of Texas like you, drapg, and others. The guy was at your school for one year and although he did real well, I get the impression that he was the greatest thing since sliced bread. I am just telling you that it isn't the end of the world that he is leaving, but hey rip on me some more since I have a differing opinion on him than you. And what in the world are you talking about with Joe Gibbs? Once again, I will make it clear to you since you seem to have a hard time understanding it - I didn't say that Robinson was a terrible coach, just overrated that's all. And I also said it wasn't the end of the world that he is leaving. Geez, it is like I insulted your mother or something...give me a break. My tip jar bet still stands with anyone here. I know that drapg has a good job and f4p should be getting one soon, if not already with his degree in engineering (mechanical I think). $50 is not much, if you think about it. It isn't going to "break" you.
Well if you would go back and read CAREFULLY what "those people", i.e. me said is that he is not a bad coach but hardly as great as you guys trumping him out to be. All I said is that he is overrated and that it isn't the end of the world that he is leaving. Your team will get someone good (probably 2 times better) to replace him.
Well perhaps we're overzealous. I know after winning the Rose Bowl, I hold every member of the organization in high regard, especially the new guys like Robinson who made a huge impact. When you're on a board with a lot of UT alumni, like myself, you have to expect that. I surely hope we can find a replacement who will be just as good, if not better. I just don't want to fall back into the abyss of Reese's philosophy, which I'm afraid could happen if Akina takes over.
Okay fair enough. I was probably overzealous in the way I came across about Robinson and he didn't leave the Broncos on the best of terms (going to the Chefs which, in my mind, have replaced the Raiders as the Broncos biggest rival didn't help. ). But the guy is a good coach and hopefully he will do alright at Syracuse. BTW, f4p, stay in school as long as you can, man, as the real world sucks (but not all the time but it still can't compare to the life you have as a college/grad student).
