Current line is -6.5 to -5 OU. I think that is about right, like I said I definetly take Texas with a full TD. Texas has had more running success going into this game than in recent years and OU does not look as dominant. I think the game will be competitive, and the line is reflective that a lot of other people think so to.
I would caution against betting upon any team you have strong feelings for, as it is impossible to look at them with an honest appraisal. The closer you are to the program, the harder it is to judge - either you're going to have a disproportionally positive view of the program, or you have an overly negative view. The Negative view is the most dangerous to the gambler, because people often convince themselves that acting negative all the time is being "honest" with themselves, and avoiding "bias". Nonsense - they've merely swung their bias in another direction.
I'm droppin a nickel on the Horns because I believe in them. Screw OU. www.apolloxviii.com click on music.
But the flip side of that is that you know your team very well. You know their strengths and their weaknesses inside and out. If you can ignore the bias (which is big - I agree), you can potentially gain an advantage over the initial line that is set. This is why pro gamblers stick to college basketball and try to get familiar with one team in particular.
Oh I don't know. A friend took me to the Baylor game. As you know, UT won by what - 30. As I was leaving I kept hearing people complaining about not covering the spread.
Did they really? I thought the line was much bigger. I didn't have any expectations for Texas providing a good game last year. This year I have a different view. Of course I correctly called OU was untested and immensely overrated going into the Big 12 chamionship last year, that most their players were overrated (White, Lehman, Harris), and that LSU would eat their lunch for the NC. I am sure you enjoyed those apples
If you think the same OU showed up for the first 12 games compared to KState then you obviously didn't watch them at all in the regular season...And LSU was the better team. As a fan, would you rather GET to any kind of championship game and lose, or go to mediocre bowls every year? Oh, and Jason White may be the most UNDERrated player in college football. But hell, I don't want to get into this argument again, neither one of us is going to change our minds
I agree that White is a better QB right now, and am amused that you felt the need to throw VY into the statement. However, with that said, and it stated that I agree with you, I think it just might have a lot to do with 5+ years of experience for Jason White. I mean, years ago he was considered a bit of a scrambler. But with all of his knee problems, he's totally become a dominant pocket QB. Vince is only a sophomore, and a tremendously gifted athlete, so I'm going to reserve judgement on his legacy until he's started more than 10 games. I'm not insinuating that you think he'll never be any good, or that you think he's no good right now. I'm just saying he's not nearly a finished product, and I think White is clearly the better QB right now, if not the better athlete. Athleticism can only get you so far, before understanding of the game, poise, and passing ability must kick in.
Are you serious? Jason White won the Heisman last year, and is even better this year. VY is a better runner, but only a fraction of the quarterback White is. Sorry if this discussion has taken place elsewhere, but if somebody thinks VY is better than Jason White, I just don't know what to say to them. VY's potential may be high, but for crying out loud White won the Heisman last year and is even better this year!
So I can't make comments in the UT/OU thread without being labeled obsessed? What about your obsession with UT? Is that normal?
I just hope we don't get up 27 points, then allow them to score 70 on us. Oh wait, we're not Rice playing one of the worst teams in the nation.
Pal, jokes intended to insult the other person usually aren't considered funny to that person. Maybe in your internet world they are, but not in my book.
