FYI...I have attended every Texas home game since I missed the '98 Baylor game. I have made road trips to Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Waco, College Station, New Orleans, Lincoln, and Fayetteville to watch my team. I went to the 1999 Big 12 Championship game in the Alamodome as Texas got crushed by a more physical Husker team, and watched us piss away a chance to play for the title in 2001 at Texas Stadium against a overmatched Colorado squad. And, not to mention, I have witnessed 4 straight beatings at the hands of a hated rival. So excuse me for being pessimistic.
We have three, but you have to look at the teams we've played. North Texas and Rice are running teams who don't throw much, and Matt Jones is probably one of the hardest QB to sack in college football. We've yet to see Robinson use the zone blitz, but you will see it next week.
Why? Because they trashed Rice, Baylor, North Texas and the stellar Arkansas defense that gave up 45 to Florida? Beating the sisters of the poor means nothing. NOTHING If UT can run on the OU defense and rack up both yards and points, then you can claim they are good.
What is all of this "we" stuff from a Houston board? I live in Aistin, and have for about 20 years now. But I went to UofH and still hate the longhorns. (I don't know why my brother in law is impressed by my ability to hold a grudge - still happily married to his sister btw). I don't watch much college ball. This year I have seen UH vs Miami and Oklahoma, as well as UT vs Arkansas and was at the Baylor game (my best friend here trades me a Texas game for a Rockets game each year - he is definately getting the better of that deal). UT was lucky to win against Arkansas and has nothing to brag about against Baylor. Baylor was often open and their receivers dropped about a dozen balls. Well stood out of bonds (by himself) for one. OU looked pretty strong against UH. I hope they spank the horns and shut everybody here up for another year.
Was it one prior to the Baylor game? With Wright, Dibbles, and DJ playing the way they have been, we should have more than three sacks.
Houston board? When I went to UH law school, 1/3 of the UH law students went to UT undergrad, many of whom were born and raised in Houston. Almost none of "us" considered "ourselves" Cougars. UH law students received free football tickets and when UT played UH in the Astrodome, "we" received "home" tickets, and outnumbered the UH fans. My wife, also a UH law grad, considers herself a Rice Alum. Both of us considered (we now live in Connecticut) ourselves proud Houstonians and donate to our alma mater - not the one across from Finger furniture.
wouldn't blame you considering they would rather spend money on some squiggly multi-language artsy crap in front of the library than to try and add more parking space.
It's merely an observation.... one that Mack Brown has been proving for 4 years in a row (not 4 games). All they have to do is prove it wrong.
Pretty nice actually. I miss the cultural diversity of Houston but the people here are pleasant and friendly and autumn leaves are outstanding. We just bought a 3721 sq ft house (there's an additional 800 sq feet in the basement that Im converting into a home theater room) in a really nice town (Imagine living in the Woodlands except you're only 10 minutes from a major city)... Anyways, back to the thread..... Greg Davis is the DeViL.
HArsh reality forces me to agree with the veracity of your statement. Sol I guess my question is "why is that?" You certainly have a reason to contribute to both schools, but only choose one. Were you all just slumming or what? Just so you will know my priorities, I was considering getting a masters at UT just so I could root for the local sports teams. But somehow during a fit of sobriety, I decided that seemed a bit extreme.
The drubbing OU has given Texas in the Stoops era has damaged many UT fan's brains. The cannot evaluate OU objectively because of it--many of these fans were saying OU was the "best college football team ever" right before their drubbing at the hands of KSU and LSU last year. UT definently has a chance. Should they be favored, no, but they have a big time chance. Hell of a lot better chance than Northwestern versus Ohio State. The have to play the game--the last 5 years has very little bearing on it. UT can win if the OL, Benson, and VY have excellent success versus OU's front 7 and SS. We will see, I certainly take Texas if they get a full TD or more.
All I know is this.... On Saturday, while OU and UT clash, and while the Astros are in the playoffs.... I will be stuck in Maryland at a family get-together!
i don't think i've seen anything all that special that makes me thing that UT can't play with OU this season. like an idiot, i scheduled a deposition for saturday morning at 10.
Did anyone hear the postgame comments from Mack and his players after Baylor? "We're not even thinking about Oklahoma until tomorrow. We're just gonna have fun today" What a joke.
I think Mac has to say that, because he knows he is outclassed by Stoops. If he said otherwise and kept coming up short, he would be lynched. Regardless of whether UT beats OU this weekend, the program is in FAR better shape under Brown than the last few predecessors. DD
I got a feeling UT will win this year...OU is ok, but its not like their spanking each team they face (excluding UofH)... This will be my first Texas-OU weekend...I can't wait...On Sunday, i'm going to the Cowboys-Giants game, my first in Texas Stadium...
