Ash's td pass to Gray was one of the best plays I've seen this year. Nearly sacked, running to his left and makes a perfect throw up the sideline. That was impressive.

That said...I, too, was pulling for a loss. A big loss. Anything to get the momentum going towards replacing Mack Brown. Now, sadly he'll probably get a raise.

Everyone knows Mack is looking for a graceful exit... The one he would have taken after the national championship game had Colt not got hurt - potentially even in a loss.

Of course the odds are extremely low but it was a nice, redeeming win. The program is more 10 - 20 ranking then out of the top 25, solidly. It's not a bad game to leave on is it? They're still not contenders next year because of the QB situation along other issues. Stepping down now would be handing over a program at least on pretty solid footing to hopefully a great coach.

    Pipe dream I know...

Anyone else thinking that Major Applewhite could become the next head coach?

Boy, how awesome would it be to see him and Kingsbury battling each other over and over again like their college days?

The man is a coaching god, but it's just not going to happen. Alabama under Saban is at worst a job equal to Texas. I don't really know how much more you can pay a college football coach, and I'm guessing his family is pretty settled into Tuscaloosa.

I honestly think there is very little clarity into Texas' long-term head coaching situation. Mack wants to right the ship, but no one knows how the hell he defines that. Mack is also evolving and doing some of the things that might have held the program back (looking at junior college prospects, offering prospects earlier, firing people, etc...), so who knows...maybe Texas could see a return to greatness soon enough.

Overall, I feel okay about the direction of the program, with one glaring exception. Manny Diaz' defense was an abomination this season. I understand he has a scheme, and this scheme performed well last season. That said, the guy did nothing to adjust for his lost personnel. I know we had some holes on our roster (made even worse by injuries), but that's what a good coach does - he schemes around the holes on his roster.

Send Saban 20 mil a year and see how he can turn that down.

UT-Austin branch take Saban? yeah right

look at where they typically get their coaches from -- places like North Carolina (Mack Brown), Illinois Urbana Champaign (Mackovic) and Texas Tech (McWilliams). You're not going to pluck from the top of the mountain. Get a clue

Ok. I'll bite....even know I know he already knows this...

First, you can't really use the word "typically" when you're going back nearly 30 years. If you're going to do that, then consider they got Dana X Bible from Nebraska and EJ Stewart from Clemson.

Second, UNC twice finished in the top 10 under Brown and had a stadium selling out in a place where football was a distant second to basketball.

Saban might be the only coach in the country that probably wouldn't listen if UT called. You might be able to throw Urban Meyer in that category since he's from Ohio.

BWAAAAAHAAHAHA!! Weakest rebuttal of all time. Bible and Stewart were both born in the 1800s.

    *MEGA SNORT*!!!!!

just face it -- Saban's out of your league.

It's not my league. You chose to go back 3 decades. I took it a few more. In other words, where they got those coaches from is irrelevant. Urban Meyer came to Florida by way of powerhouse Utah and Bowling Green before that. Before Meyer, Ohio State had a coach they plucked from Youngstown State. Les Miles was never a head coach before his stint at Ok. State.

    Mega Snort, huh?

David Baliff is from Texas State.

    What was your point, again?
