Hell no. Mack doesn't hold people accountable, and apparently is not very good at picking coaches. He'd be horrible in the AD role. He just needs to become the Legislative liason or something for UT - something that doesn't involve anything to do with managing or leading.
I'm still waiting on someone to agree with Brando by saying Mack Brown is a good coach/leader and deserves to stay.
I would wager that A&M will have a stronger average BCS ranking than UT over the course of the next 5 years. Take the final BCS rankings at the end of each season for each team and average them. That's the only way I'd know to do the wager. Tipjar is fine, don't care about the amount, whatever you choose since you're the underdog.
LOL at these A&M gomers in here. I remember my first winning season. When it comes to UT, I'm just glad the 2009 class is turning over. That was an atrocious class, the '10 class hasn't performed much better. As far as recruiting vs A&M, not much will change... Austin recruits itself and UT is a superior university. Those things won't ever change. Sorry agricultural & mechanical ... or is it manufacturing? ehh who cares
Long ways away, but sure. Since we're the underdog, how about you put up $150 vs. my $100? I don't think it will matter in the end, but I'm thinking about the next 5 years after this current season just to be clear.
Exactly. And historically coaches are like running backs, once they lose a step, they nearly always have to go somewhere else to restart and recover (if they ever do).
It's time for Mack to go. He says all the right things but can't get on the field results anymore since he makes the wrong decisions - recruits the wrong players, hires wrong coaches. I still say all out push for Chip Kelly is possible... If not plenty of good coaches who'd want the job
For some reason that escapes me, Chip Kelly is a hot commodity for the NFL, where there should be plenty of vacancies starting Dec 31st.
It does seem odd, given that his style of play seems to be completely unsuited to the NFL. But he does manage to get the most out of his talent, so maybe that's the draw? Not really sure. Rumors are that some of the boosters are finally joining the rest of us: http://www.insidetexas.com/news/story.php?article=4124 http://www.frogsowar.com/2012/11/27...-out-at-texas-and-gary-patterson-might-be-the Only rumors, so who knows. Gary Patterson wouldn't be bad - but I would prefer someone that injects some excitement into a stale program, and I'm not sure Patterson does that.
Been thinking about Mack's potential replacement for quite some time and have broken it down into 2 tiers: Tier 1: 1. Nick Saban - Make him the highest paid coach in CFB and he'll at least listen. Seems like he'd be the legacy type guy that would at least mull over possibly winning 3 NC with 3 different schools. 2. Pete Carroll - Would he leave the NFL just after 2 seasons? Not sure but he'd be a great hire for us IMO. Great coach and recruiter, and would bring some excitement back to the program. 3. Will Muschamp - Doubt he'd leave Gainesville but worth a shot. Tier 2: 1. Gary Patterson - Obvious ties to the state, maximizes talent as well as anyone in CFB. 2. David Shaw - Love what this guy has done with Stanford post Harbaugh. One of the best young coaches and can win the big games. 3. Chris Peterson - Seems to be the next guy to get a big time school offer. Fantastic record at Boise but not as attractive as the above mentioned IMO. Other Considerations: 1. Steve Spurrier - Old Ball Coach at Texas? Interesting thought. 2. Art Briles - Great offensive mind, but not going to win big w/o a defense. 3. Mike Gundy - See Briles.
I think your Tier #1 is fairly unlikely. Tier #2 is great (not a fan of Patterson, but for no good reason). I love the innovative philosophies of the "other considerations" and would be very happy if we get someone like that (same reason I like Chris Peterson and Chip Kelly so much).
I think you should add John Gruden's name to that list. Might be that he is only interested in the NFL but if he were to consider a college gig I bet Texas would be one of the few he would.
I keep hearing him mentioned as a candidate for college jobs and I don't see it. He's not a college coach.
Mack is more than likely back for at least one more season. Even if he decides to quit this offseason, it will be on his own accord. I think the DC position is one that should be watched more closely...pretty crazy in and of itself because it was only this past offseason that Texas fans saw Diaz as a "head coach in waiting" type. I'm not extremely in tune with this stuff, but I don't see an up-and-comer from a SEC program like a Chizik or Muschamp out there. Kirby Smart is obviously ripe for a head coaching position and wouldn't leave Alabama if he weren't. We also know that Mack is a sucker for loyalty, so we may not even see a change there. When Mack's time does come, I think at least a call to Gruden should be made. Seems like a guy that can really get kids excited.
3 interesting candidates: http://www.barkingcarnival.com/2012...tyre-dave-doeren-texas-head-coach-replacement Pure speculation, of course - well, not even speculation. More like a fan wish list.
We should have got Meyer. He could have had a sanction free program to work and the richest program in CF.
I would LOVE to get Spurrier, the guy knows how to coach. He's been doing well at USC but I can only imagine what he would do with the talent available to him at UT
