If Chip Kelly would seriously consider jumping ship, you pursue that hard. It's not clear to me that he would, but then he'll still always loose out to an undefeated SEC or Big 12 team, and Texas gets him into that Big 12.

Chris Peterson would be a good hire, but with the potential to go just okay.

Saban would of course be great, but I see no way that happens. Spurrier... eh. I think he's a bit overrated. Just a bit, but still.

I'd put all eggs in that Chip Kelly basket if possible.

Chip Kelly is the best candidate. I would also do all I could to get him

If Mack is out I think John Gruden gets a call to gauge interest. Not sure if he'd leave the booth for a college gig but if there ever was one he would consider Texas has to be at or near the top.

How is that any different than how he is viewed in Baton Rouge?

I don't think he'll leave, but I would be shocked if UT didn't call and offer him a blank check to judge his interest.

And for those mentioning Chip Kelly, if the insiders are to be believed, he is not an option after the Will Lyles saga.

You can't just go up to all these coaches and ask them to come over to your school. They are locked into contracts, and each one has a buyout figure. Sumlin isn't even 7 games into his stint yet as A&M coach. I bet they'd have to pay the entire balance on his deal left with the Aggies, PLUS give him a massive pay raise. This isn't fantasy football.

I would love for the Aggies to play the Longhorns this year. With that "defense' you guys are sporting, I bet A&M would hang 65 on you without blinking an eye.

lol so much butt hurt. I haven't ventured to UT football threads since we don't play them anymore, but I wanted to gather what the general consensus of Mack was and I was surprised to see that the "we're Texas" attitude that got them to the place they're in right now still runs rampant among fans (and especially T-shirt fans). Why in god's name would Saban even entertain the idea of leaving Bama and rolling the dice on resuscitating the dumpster fire that is UT football right now? "a truck full of money", a delusional fan could argue. But how much of a pay raise are you really willing to give him to sway his decision? 10 million dollars? What's gets me is that his name is mentioned the most whenever the coach-change talk breaks out in the 40 acres. So much ignorance and delusion.

But back to the topic at hand, are any of you guys in the loop hearing what could possibly transpire after this season? Word from my UT friends is that Mack will be forced out and it seems like Dodds' job is tied to his as well. If that's true, one would almost think that Chip Kelly would be the likely hire, especially with sanctions looming in the horizon for Oregon. I really doubt Texas goes after Petrino since the Big money horns seem to always avoid controversy and maintain some sort of a classiness/family standard.

How can UT hire Chip Kelly if he leaves a mess behind in Oregon and also "avoid controversy and maintain some sort of a classiness/family standard". That doesn't make any sense.

Alabama is a great job. Texas is an even better one.

Man Texas has only lost 2 games this year. TWO. You guys are nuts. They could EASILY EASILY EASILY be 4-1 right now. The W. Virginia game could have gone either way.

Texas fans are so spoiled. They were given 10 win season after 10 win season after 10 win season and now they think that is just the norm. Mack had the most winningness (regular season) team in college football for a decade. He also went to TWO championship games. There is no school that wouldn't hire mack if they had a coaches vacancy.

10 win seasons with a fairly week schedule and two of the best quarterbacks in college football history isnt really all that impressive for the coach. Only 1 NC with all that recruiting talent only thanks to superman vy. Nobody has done less with more than mack brown.

Agreed...I don't think there is any realistic way that Saban would come to Texas. On top of an obscene amount of money, it would require that Saban was looking for a challenge. As it stands now, he will have a chance at a title once every 2-3 years at Alabama. There are few schools that can recruit better than Texas, but Alabama with Saban is one of them.

Though I've been aware of his faults for some time, I've always been a pretty steady supporter of Mack. Mainly because those same faults make him a likable guy. Saturday has me singing a different tune, though. This loss was unlike anything I've ever seen, and I was around for the three other blowouts. If he wants it, he deserves one more shot, but he really needs to be pressed on how badly he wants it.

I'm no x's & o's expert, but I am really questioning Diaz's knowledge of defensive fundamentals. Almost seems like he has the innovation part down, but is behind on the basics.

Defense has been worthless since week 1 at Wyoming and shown no progress to date. We're headed to another 7 win season at the current pace.

Playing like crap and still winning enough will get you by for a while; this will not.

    To quote the Chronic:
For a big football program, this kind of mediocrity won't accepted anywhere.

And we could EASILY EASILY EASILY be 3-3 right now. We barely scraped by that Ok State game. The WVU game was horribly coached. And we got beat into the ground against OU. We could easily be 0-3 in conference play.

The article SacTown posted had pretty telling statistics. Mack Brown's record against OU is bad. Having only won 2 conference championships in 15 seasons is pretty bad.

I don't think we have been getting the best out of the talent we have, and that is due to coaching.

Leaving the football coach job at Alabama would be like leaving the basketball job at Kentucky or North Carolina. Most coaches just do not leave one of the storied programs.

Texas has been a very good program, but not on par with Alabama.

UT is the richest program in the country. You are in best football recruiting state in the country. UT is also a better school than Alabama if that counts for anything.
