Told folks....Greg Ward had as much to do with UH success as Herman. He was a poised QB that could make plays with his legs and kept bone headed mistakes to a minimum. Just didn't know HOW much of the success was Herman and how much was Ward. Every time Ward was out (Connecticut) UH looked rancid.

Orlando though what the hell. I'd say it's his lack of the best lineman in the game (Oliver) being gone but he didn't have Oliver year one and that Cougar D was still awesome.

Herman was a master at half time adjustments while at UH. Some bizarro stuff.

Players likely turned off by Herman kissing them before, after, during the game. Can't blame them.

As a UH alum, this makes me so happy. Screw herman. Screw ut. If herman doesn't pan out they will just spend the 25 mil to buy him out. They will spend another 10 to buy out his staff. Then they will drop 50 mil on the next bright shiny thing that comes down the pike. They just throw money at stuff. I love this.

Wow, did we really just get beat at home by Maryland or are my eyes deceiving me?

How the **** do we give up 51 points to this team?? LOL

Everybody knows the only reason UT lost today was because their urine was too yellow. Tom will adjust. I heard Adam Sandler has been brought on as part of his staff for the rest of the season.

See, this is the kind of sentiment I don't understand. Yes, Herman left for supposedly greener pastures (yikes), but he gave UH two great seasons, including a New Year's Six bowl win. It was one of the best seasons ever for UH. I have family ties to UH, and I loved following along. Really those of you with this mentality just come off as petty and small.

I don't think UH fans are as upset that he left, but in how he left.

"I told our guys, never get used to this feeling, but that if we all thought that we were going to come in here and in nine months sprinkle some fairy dust on this team and think that we've arrived, then we're wrong," Herman said.

This is such a crappy excuse. He's right in principle - and if Texas were playing USC this weekend, the quote would make perfect sense. But Maryland was as bad as Texas last year - you didn't need fairy dust to beat them, or to at least look competitive with them. Maybe Maryland will turn out really good, but the Vegas Over-Under for wins for them was ... 3.

You are not a UH person. I don't expect you to understand.

It's not a Tom Herman issue. This guy makes them compete in everything. He does everything he can to make them hate losing. He punishes them for every little detail they screw up.

At some point it's on the players. And these guys are awful.

My dad went to UH, so I grew up going to the games. A lot of them. But ok.

But clearly you don't understand. Living in the houston area, most have family ties to UH. Doesn't mean squat.

How was he supposed to leave that wouldn't have pissed of the fan base? I guess he could leave after a 5-6 season, but no one would have hired him. Looking back at Mac's tenure he only had one losing season. Even sumlin hasn't had a losing season at A&M. They were a 19 point favorite. Doesn't look good for Herman.

For starters, he could have actually met with the team and told them he was leaving, instead of packing up and saying bye by twitter. Compare these reactions:

    http://www.12up.com/posts/4175299-houston-players-blast-coach-on-twitter-for-ditching-team

To how Louisville and VCU players reacted to Strong and Smart leaving and coming to Texas. They were disappointed, but also mostly happy for the coaches, etc. Both of them met with the players, talked to them about why, openly talked about agonizing over the decision and how they valued their current schools, etc. They also met with and kept in contact with their administrations, etc.

Herman showed none of that - that's part of the "arrogant prick" approach he generally has. Lots of great coaches have that style so you can win that way, but it also leads to lots of anger/bad feelings/etc when things go south.

Herman's teams at UH often lost trap games. This isn't all that surprising. REMEMBER SMU, Navy, and Memphis? His squads get up for big games and wet the bed in trap games. That being said, with USC coming up, they better not cry over spilled milk or they could get EMBARRASSED! I won't shed a single friggin tear if it blows up in his face, the Coogs program deserved better than the way he left. GO COOGS!

UH fan here. Here is what I don't understand. When Herman left Ohio, he announced he was leaving but stayed and completed the season. No hidden agenda. Remember him putting on a UH cap as confetti was falling in the background. Why couldn't he do that when leaving UH? (All coaches for that matter!).

Call the team together and say "just as some of you will graduate and move to new jobs, and just as some will go pro as underclassmen, I have made the same decision. My success and opportunity is based on what you did here on the field. Thank You! Now let's go out there together and close this great season out right.

It's the hypocrisy of preaching love for the players then lying to them.
It's the hypocrisy of 'wall off the city', just to bolt in the middle of his contract.

I changed my log in code to tomlied. And I got to tell you, it makes me feel a little better..

Times like these sure make you appreciate Mack Brown and his taken for granted 10 win seasons.

Well, leaving as a coordinator during a national title run is different than just waiting to play a useless bowl game. I agree that it could've been done better but the 2 situations are very different.

Respectfully disagree. Both involve fulfilling obligations you agreed to. I understand the difference in bowl games, but to me it is a moral issue. I think it is wrong solution if it requires lying to people.
