I really hold this defense up to high expectations this season, but so far they haven't shown anything in any of these games. Holding a team like New Mexico to 0 is the best thing they've done and that was supposed to be a given. For all the talk about the D being solid, it's been bit a underwhelming... especially with things like tackling which is supposed to be something basic.
We could have had Jerry Gray, and we get Manny Diaz. Mack is goofy when it comes to coaching decision.
They cannot tackle, they don't even seem to know what each others job is on D, the offense is getting ****ing stupid with all of the gay trick plays (They needed 2 yards for a 1st and another end around for a loss, SMFH) and now you let a Frosh QB run for 50? Diaz seems clueless, such an overrated coach and D.
Yup, run 90% of the quarter off the clock and score, but then our pathetic D allows a score in 1 minute. Such a joke.
I don't care for the result of this game any longer. Win or lose, it doesn't change how pathetic this defense has been. WVU might crush em in Austin with this kind of defense.
What a **** call on the kickoff. Just let 'em score and save the clock. They're not gonna stop 'em anyways.
Probably will be running more option and wild cat next game against WVU. David Ash did not run at all today, and that is one of his strengths to keep the defense off balance. I am happy with his growth from last year, but we need more variety with our receivers. Too many check downs to RBs, not enough slot or TE use. Disappointing play calling by Brian Harsin trying to get too cute instead of doing what works. Special teams was complete crap and had lots of head scratchers, giving Ok State good field position and I cannot wait until we get Anthony Vera back so we finally have a kicking game. Defense was UTTER CRAP. First half was marred by missed tackles giving up 2 TDs. Our players are still trying to lower the boom with the shoulder instead of good form tackles by wrapping up. STUPID STUPID STUPID. Coverage was soft. LBs and DBs were consistently lost on defense and we could not stop the run when we knew it was going to happen. We have regressed from last year and Manny Diaz is not doing a good job coaching. I am still wary about WVU but Okie State was more dangerous to me. They run a more balanced offense with a manageable defense. I hope our defense grows and our players will learn to wrap up and man their assignments as the season goes on.
I really, really thought Texas was going to lose. I actually think they did, the ball was fumbled before it crossed the goal line. Better lucky than good. West Virginia new week, oh my.
It wasn't even about the tackling... I mean, yeah, the defense missed quite a few tackles, but the overall lack of aggressiveness by the players is what scared me tonight. The LBs didn't do ****. Hell, the CBs on this team did a better job of playing the run inside the tackles than the LBs did. No aggressiveness whatsoever from those guys. They sat back on their heels and waited for the blockers to come to them, and then they just ran straight into him... they didn't even try to rip through or make a play. It seemed like every run OSU made tonight, it was either for a loss (D-Line made a play) or for a 8+ yard gain (Secondary had to make the tackle). There was no in-between. And I don't think Adrian Phillips legitimately made a tackle all night tonight. In fact, when he got hurt in the 1st quarter and went off the field, the defense played a lot better the rest of the half. The next time I saw him was in the 3rd quarter, and that's when OSU started getting big yardage again.
