Not a fan of Herman because he hasn't accomplished much at all?

The University of Houston was 21-18 prior to Herman's arrival.

Herman is 22-3 as a head coach... he is 6-0 against top 25 teams... including beating #9 FSU in the bowl game... #2 OU and #3 Louisville.

I don't know that Herman is leaving UH, and if he does, I am not sure he would want to coach at UT.... BUT, you as a fan at UT would be very lucky to get Herman. What coach do you think UT is going to get?

Herman recruits well and has routinely out coached his peers in big games. He badly out coached Petrino, Stoopes and Fisher.

Mack Brown had issues beyond just the last leg. He couldn't recruit a QB worth a damn. Garrett Gilbert failed and he went down the drain with him. He passed up many opportunities to find a viable replacement for Colt McCoy in the best recruiting grounds for a QB.

Again, how can you resort to anything else but the coaching? He's had two top recruiting classes the last two years. The guy came into set a "change of culture" with this strict guidelines. He did it day 1 by kicking players off the team that didn't follow them. So what exactly is it then? What's toxic? An expectation level? I mean I could understand if the Big 12 was some juggernaut of competition, but it hasn't been that great of a conference. Your logic is basically, well he was great as a DC for Florida and a great as Louisville's head coach, so now it can't all be coaching. That's such terrible logic. Being a head coach at a P5 program, let alone a blueblood program like UT is pretty difficult job. It isn't the same as being a DC or a coach on an non P5 program. The competition is much greater, you have more responsibilities, and the expectation level is greater. He wouldn't have been any better at a school like Baylor either. Nobody here was demanding a NC when Strong came on board. I didn't see any boosters come on and say well this guy has to win 10 games. The expectation level was to improve from the latter years of Mack Brown and Strong failed to do that even one season. If external factors cause teams to go 6-6 or 5-7 3 years in a row with top 10 recruiting classes, then we might as well reevaluate football as a sport in general. That would mean every single player and coach in this program is a mental midget. I don't believe that to be the case. You can see how stupid that sounds.

Strong was a bad fit for Texas and the Big 12 to begin with. He just looks lost out there week after week. He's a mediocre (at best) head coach in general, but his coaching style (as a HC or a coordinator) is better suited for a middle-of-the-road Big 10 or SEC team. Still...poor fit or not, losing to Kansas simply shouldn't happen. Heck, simply getting the team emotionally fired up and ready to play with a barebones gameplan would've probably been enough to win this game based on sheer talent superiority. Losing to KU is just unbelievable.

Bye bye, Charlie. You're a good man, but it's past time for you to GTFO of UT-Austin.

I don't need to see his resume. I know what he has done so far. To me that's still not enough to tell me he's capable of turning this program. At this point though, anyone not named Strong would be a welcome sight. Anything to change from this coaching staff to another one would probably be a breath of fresh air.

I don't know what coach UT is going to get. There isn't much out there right now. This is why I'm OK with them standing pat until they can figure this out. Rushing to judgement based on a guy winning a couple of games against "good" teams isn't how they should go about getting their next coach. They need to look at more than that.

Recruiting is not an issue, never has been with UT. FWIW, Stoopes is a has been. Outcoaching him isn't that difficult anymore. Petrino was never looked at as a top coach coming in, and he certainly isn't one now. I'll give you Jimbo, but that FSU team wasn't some national title contender.

The point here for me is, they better be dead set on Herman lasting beyond 3-4 years if that's who they go with. I'll believe the results when I see them if he is here at UT.

Strong had the same resume that Herman has before joining the program. Herman never had to rebuild a program from top to bottom like Strong had. that's a monumental task.

If Herman comes in and immediately starts contending it'll be because of the foundation that Strong built. Herman has lost to bad teams too like SMU. it happens.

Your argument that you want someone more proven than Herman is ridiculous to me. There isn't a Saban, Harbaugh, Meyer, etc that's going to come to Texas. Even coaches like Petersen are unlikely. So who does that leave? Herman is the most proven, risky option out there. He was a graduate assistant at Texas and can recruit extremely well here. He's from Urban Meyer's coaching tree, and it seems obvious to me he knows what he's doing. So please give me a realistic option out there who is better than Herman; don't just say he's overrated. And sticking with Strong clearly isn't an option anymore.

And what is college for, exactly? At least I can go back to not caring about college sports again.

Take it up with Herbstreit and Finebaum who both said the atmosphere with the boosters involvement in the football program is toxic.

LMFAO this attitude is exactly why UT has been a football underachiever for most of the last 40 years.

Those kids don't come to college for that. They come to play football. As long as our head coach isn't turning the other way like Paterno or Briles, winning matters more.

Yes, I know. That's why college football is stupid. Not going to argue, it is what it is.

    I'll take UT's 40-year performance over UH's any day.

Why would I take it up with them? They're the ones that keep saying he's never been given a fair shot but that couldn't be further from the truth. Showing SOME improvement is needed especially when you come into this program and start kicking out any talent we had from 2013. So basically you have nothing to add.. got it. Nice to know you can't back anything you said.

I didn't say I would hate the hire. I'm saying until he proves it, I won't take that hype seriously. He isn't going to be in any different position coming that Strong was in 2014 if he is hired. I said the same thing about Strong when he was hired too. Up until now 3 years later, he still hasn't proven anything to me given all the resources he's had to work with. And even then, I'm still willing to give him another year (ill admit mostly because there aren't many enticing names to be had). I'm willing to give whoever Texas hires a fair chance before I judge. But they need to get this right. Whoever they hire has to be the guy they keep for a while. I understand that there aren't many options to choose from now or later. Herman may very well be the best option, but that doesn't mean that I'm going to expect he is going to turn it around like I would for some proven coaches. He has to show it just like Strong had the chance to show it. A couple of "signature" wins isn't going to cut it either. Strong had some of those too.

I am sure UH would take UT's performance as well.

    That isn't the point.
