Wolken is a class-A moron. Let's all agree not to post any of his stuff on here. I have not read one actually insightful thing from him that he has written on college football. It is not even just bait; he plays the race card, tries to get fans to fight over Twitter, and then claims that he had nothing to do with it. He is about as bad as Clay Travis.

So it is understood among the fanbase that if we get embarrassed by OU like we have the last two games, Strong will be fired midseason? I'm unfamiliar with the timeline for replacing coaches but, if that happens, I would hate for us to lose out on a shot at Tom Herman if Strong is a dead man walking.

I don't think that is the understanding, it may be what a lot want though. But I think majority of the fanbase believe, along with what is being said, is that Strong won't be fired midseason. There's also the fact that Texas has never fired a HC midseason. But all bets are off if we lose to OU and Iowa St. IMO.

But if Strong gets the rest of the season, don't think we'd lose our shot at Herman unless he is planning on leaving UH before their bowl game. It happens, more often with coordinators, but don't see Herman hightailing it out of Houston if he did choose to leave. As a Longhorn who has lost all faith in Strong, I don't think you fire him unless you have the next guy all but signed on the dotted line.

I think it depends on if UH makes the playoffs. I can see him leaving before a regular bowl game because that's just how college football works. I think anything can happen in terms of the timing of Strong's firing. If the team continues to be embarrassed then they'll fire him mid season. UT needs to go 4-4 to be bowl eligible. Getting into a bubble bowl would be agonizing in a situation where the inevitable is just dragged out for no great reason.

Nobody is happy. If OU kicks the hell out of them, which is possible, things may get shaken up in a hurry.

Is it safe to assume that Texas' interest in Tom Herman will probably even further damage an already weakened push for UH in the Big 12?? Why would Texas support bringing UH into the conference if they are trying to pry their coach away?

I wouldn't think so. Herman seems like the perfect coach for us but with expansion, you're talking about a 10-15 year deal worth hundreds of millions in guaranteed money. There are no guarantees with any coach, no matter how good they look.

With that said, Texas is still just one vote and they'd need 7 more. With OU seemingly reversing its course and OkSt. likely following suit, you just need one more dissenter. I think the schools will know how each will vote should it come down to that. Texas could support UH all the way until the end knowing it's not in the cards.

Strong is one of those good character guy coaches but is not detailed enough to win at a large university.

It should not take this long to turn around a program when others have done it so quickly with less like Harbaugh for example.

The bottom line is Strong is just not that good.

Individual football games, coaches, and seasons are completely irrelevant when deciding multi-decade decisions of whether a school is a fit for a conference. These discussions are on completely separate tracks.

Is there anything Charlie can do to keep his job? The poll below has a list of accomplishments. Check whichever ones he needs to do. If you check, "run the table" then don't also check "Win 6 of next 8 (8-4)" but whatever. It's not a very scientific poll.

    HTML:
    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://www.easypolls.net/ext/scripts/emPoll.js?p=57f6e3fde4b03d77a3f494a2"></script><a class="OPP-powered-by" href="https://www.murvey.com" style="text-decoration:none;"><div style="font: 9px arial; color: gray;">polls & surveys</div></a>

    EDIT:

Well I can't figure out how to embed this poll. So what does Charlie have to do to keep his job? I think he keeps it with 10 wins and maybe 9 wins. 8 wins is iffy especially if lose any more games by more than 20 points.

I do think Texas wins tomorrow and everyone should hope they win. Beating OU won't save his job if he doesn't have a great rest of the season. Speaking of which, does anyone know what the time is?
