Anybody who saw the guy when he got up could tell he had a dislocated or separated shoulder - his arm was just dangling there. He's a freshman who hadn't been through this before, and couldn't figure out whether to get off the field or stay on since it was too late, so he went back down. The timeout wasn't an injury timeout or slow down - Texas called timeout once they figured out what happened. Cal fans' righteous indignation over that is completely misguided.
To be fair, I'm pretty sure everyone in the stadium thought he was faking it. If I were a Cal fan, I'd be annoyed too. It looked every bit like a fake injury to stop the momentum.
It looked like that but we had called a timeout to stop the play. It wasn't like it was an injury timeout.
True - but we called the timeout after he fell down. I think if you're expecting fans to rationally analyze the situation at that point, you're asking a bit too much. Cal was running a hurry-up offense, had gotten to the 3, and then some guy that appeared perfectly healthy and suddenly falls over and stops the game. That's something that will get booed in any stadium in the country. The timeout after and the fact he was really injured aren't really part of the equation.
texas boosters look like they paying these refs in the oklahoma state game good, they want ole charlie outta there
God it's amazing what a good QB can do to the entire offense. A team that seemingly can't do anything well, suddenly becomes explosive at every position.
