It's hard to get excited about playing teams I care nothing about. Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, West Virginia. I don't know even one person that went to any of those schools.
That's a whole different deal and I totally agree with you. Not playing Nebraska, aTm, is a huge problem for the conference. Bringing in UH, BYU, Cincy, or whoever is no going to fix this.
Heard is such a big improvement over the Swoopes era. Offensive drives are actually moving and Heard gives us a big play threat. Offensive line protection has been great, too. However, Heard's completions are to open receivers. Credit the receivers and offensive line for making the play and Heard for making the good reads, but I'm not sure if he has good touch on his throws as he hasn't had to fit tight windows and the endzone fade didn't connect. Also, SMH at special teams. The game was saved when Cal was offsides on the pooch kickoff that they recovered. If Cal maintained possession, momentum would've swung their way and was looking like it'd snowball. Jonathan Gray shouldn't have run that ball out of the endzone, although Heard put together a great 97-yard drive. The targeting rule in college football is laughably bad, too.
You typically don't have to throw into tight windows in college, it's the reason guys like Tebow and VY were dominant, yet looked utterly terrible in the pro's. I really don't care how Heard projects in the NFL. He looks like a college monster already.
God I would love it if he was there...Everything I have seen from him so far, indicates that he would be terrific in this offense. Trusts his eyes, makes terrific throws into coverage, trusts his receivers, and has great speed and touch on his throws.
It's mainly the short quick routes that worry me for Heard, like all these red zone passes that Goff is abusing our defense with. Colt McCoy was great with timing those routes with his receivers. A lot of those dink and dunk routes keep the chains moving. As Heard gets more reps and familiarity with the receivers, I hope he develops that.
