Somebody's already forgotten Third-and-draw McGraw, or the entire Southwestern Conference for its last five years. Remember that god-awful four-way tie in '94 or '95?
I've been saying Kelly for months now. He makes perfect sense for Texas. He fled Oregon when the heat was 15 minutes around the corner, like DeNiro. I don't think he necessarily wanted the NFL. Not yet. He knows the Eagles fanbase will tear him up when he fails. And he will fail at some point, this is the NFL, nobody contends year-in-year-out. I called Kelly a while back. Hope it happens so I look smarter than y'all already perceive me to be. The only thing is, I think Kelly makes the same or slightly more than Saban right now. I suppose UT can afford 8 though.
To avoid distraction and to keep the door open for NFL & BCS bowl coaches, I wouldn't be surprised if they waited until after the Alamo bowl. Remember, "It's about the kids".
Sorry for being late to this but I would respond to him about his "legitimate sources" but it would be a waste of my time. Twitter can either be awesome or S***. I've been telling my friends that I think James Franklin will be the next coach. If Texas is looking to have a coach for a longtime then Franklin should be the obvious choice. What he's done at Vanderbilt is pretty amazing. Also,(I know J Sizzle will hate me for this) Gus would fit perfectly. Texas has some great running backs and I believe that Gus would do well. He could minimize the ineffectiveness of Tyrone Swoopes throwing ability by running the triple option.
Now that there is no rush to make these "moneywhip"-type offers, I hope the BOR/Powers/Patterson/whoever else takes their time and really diligences who would be a good fit for Texas football from both a football and cultural perspective. I don't think we should go spend $7mm to grab the biggest, most expensive name out there. That kind of money should only go to a guy that's already proven he can win in the situation he's signing up for (Saban). I think we should look to hire a reasonably young, but still experienced coach that would be enticed for ~$4mm. The exception, to me, is Jim Harbaugh. If he's remotely interested, someone needs to pull out their checkbook and moneywhip him ASAP. I'd like to note that I don't think Harbaugh is or would be interested.
That's what they did last time but the program was in a much worse place. I think they are going to go for as big a name as they can get.
The entire college football world is laughing at our university, and rightfully so. Just because we're Texas doesn't work any longer. Hoping for the best but I'm prepared to be let down again.
Then you've been wrong for months, which is not a surprise. Chip Kelly fled Oregon in the wake of the Will Lyles recruiting scandal. Guess who was the whistleblower in that one. Note: the ironic thing about the Will Lyles/street agent affair was that it worked out well for everybody - except for Texas (and Will Lyles) 1. Chip Kelly got a nice NFL head coaching escape raft and millions of dollars 2. Oregon got the full devestating mildness of token NCAA sanctions 3. Will Lyles' clients like Lache Seastrunk and Ahmad Dixon found the green they sought in Waco.... ...where they just helped slam the door on Mack Brown.
fantastic, i'm not going to paste this because it's worth the click: http://www.everydayshouldbesaturday.com/2013/12/12/5204404/a-handy-guide-to-the-texas-power-network
You can in fact hire him. So UT would be under the penalties that Kelley was given for the next 18 months (the remaining length of his show clause).
