I grew up in a home of Longhorns. I always loved the Horns growing up. Followed a girl to Baylor, but still have a soft spot in my heart for UT. My kids both want to be Longhorns. Mack has been tremendous for Texas football, and that shouldn't be dismissed or forgotten based on the last few seasons. They'll find a great replacement and UT football will thrive. Subject of course to Briles' Bears (no, I'm not trolling!!!!!!). Hook 'em and Sic 'em!
I don't think it will ever be forgotten. I think it might take some time before people fully realize what he did for the program because it might take a couple of years to dig out from where it currently is. However, Mack will likely always be fondly remembered for his time here.
He would have been fired if not for VY. He could beat OU and he couldn't win a conference championship. VY changed all that.
I went to the Texas Sports Business Association's Q and A with Deloss Dodds last night. He was upfront and honest. I wrote up some of the stuff you guys might find interesting: "We called down to Texas A&M asking them to join a statewide collegiate sports network. They said no. Fox offered us 3 million a year for the Longhorn Network; we accepted ESPN's offer of 15 million per year. A&M and Nebraska's coaches, players, and fans wanted to stay in the Big 12. Their upper-level executives did not want to stay. A&M's Gene Stallings had always wanted to leave the Big 12 because of his disdain of UT. With the Longhorn Network, he finally had a reason. We looked at joining other conferences, but we decided against it because our priority is the students and academics. We did not want to travel across the country and leave little time for studies." When asked why he didn't call out A&M, Dodds said: "I don't believe in making enemies. Never make an enemy. Just give them a hug and a pat on the back and move on." On the NCAA: "I had lunch with Mark Emmert (head of NCAA) on Friday. He asked me for advice on how to fix the NCAA. I told him that it's too big. I don't think we should pay players, but we should be able to pay for all college expenses (food, etc). I told him that I think the NCAA should be federated. Schools should align by like-minded characteristics (geography, monetary resources, etc) and be governed by these specific groups, not a huge bureaucracy." "The secret of UT's branding and monetary success is the longhorn symbol. No other college symbol is more recognizable around the world."
And so it begins. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say there will be tons of stories/leaks like this by agents looking for raises. Especially if Texas, USC, Michigan and Florida gigs become vacant.
Some dude was telling me about Harbaugh last Saturday at party in Westlake, I think he said Jim. Must of have had the same informant. I guess he got Jim and John mixed up.

The more I read about him the more I'm hoping UT hires Gary Andersen. He's not a sexy hire, but a damn good football coach.

We sure like raiding Auburn. I would be really shocked if Urban Myer left. That would be more shocking than Saban.
I also heard cybernetically enhanced John Wooden is taking over for Rick Barnes as well, and the board of regents will be chaired by genetically engineered Abraham Lincoln assisted by Tyrion Lannister riding on a velociraptor.
