I wouldn't be overly upset losing to OU. Why? 1. It's damn hard to beat a teamt the caliber of OU 3x in 1 season. 2. It means we got to the Final Four, which is great progress during the Rick Barnes era. Before the tourney, I told myself that reaching the Final Four would be a great enough accomplishment that I wouldn't be too bummed if we lost in that round or the national championship game (sure it would sting, but hey, it would be improvement to build on next season. Plus T.J. would have even more desire to come back, seeing as how close the team was to tasting the ultimate victory.)
Win today and this season will be viewed as a success. As for the future of UT basketball, as long as Barnes is here, we'll be a top ten team. Daniel Gibson and Dion Dowell come in the year after next. While I don't think UT is as talented as some team, they seem to play well together. Should be preseason #1 next year.
I find it highly amusing that Baqui99 goes to extraordinary lengths to draw a distinction between his major (EE) and the rest of the majors at UT. It's as if there are elements/students/majors at UT that embarrass him by association, so he must distance himself from them. This is amusing, although I can't say that I blame him.
Would anybody feel for Mack Brown if Rick Barnes won the NCAA Basketball Tourney? THe baseball coach has won it, and maybe the basketball coach has won it. I bet Mack would feel even more pressure to win it.
Rice alums, why piss on UT academics? It is a very solid public university, one of the best in the south. I don't get it. Your school is a great academic institution; denigrating UT's academics doesn't make Rice any better.
Exactly. I chose UT over Rice because their C.S. department was ranked #7 at the time while Rice's wasn't on the map. Sure the overall quality of education might have been better with Rice, but I was more concerned about my area of concentration.
well drapg and DVau, Unlike you two I guess, I do not consider just getting to the final four the main goal. UT has a real chance to win the whole thing. TJ Ford was asked how good it felt to get as far as the Elite 8. "It's fine but our goal is to win a national championship." I expect UT to make the Final Four because of the neutral home-court advantage they have. You better lose your voice today DVau. and drapg, to beat OU twice and then lose a third time to them (in UT's biggest basketball game ever) wouldn't make you "overly upset? Are you kidding me??? OUis a school that has done its part in killing any UT football goals of winning a national title. I'd love to see UT's basketball return the favor. I say this with OU down to Syr 10-8/SIZE]
I'm not too concerned about UTs losses to OU. Winning in college athletics is the only thing that keeps a majority of the population of Oklahoma from killing themselves for living in such a worthless state.
For the record, I was not attempting to "piss on" UT's academics. I have a lot of respect for several of their programs. Their business school is very strong, for instance. I was just making light of the fact that every third post that Baqui99 puts up has an electrical engineering reference. That's all.
No I'm not kidding you. I guess I don't put as much emphasis on one competitor as you do. OU is a rival, but the sun doesn't rise and set based on the fact that we beat them or lose to them. Personally, I separate what happens on the football field and basketball court... but maybe that's just me. But it makes no difference anymore since OU couldn't reach the Final Four and UT is looking mighty good at the half!
Please disregard my last comment......it was in the heat of the moment and I'm sorry. Liken it to RM95's comments about my mother after October 12th
What in the hell is going on with CBS? 1 minute and 30 seconds left and they went off the air? I've got nothing but a red screen showing a Southwestern Bell logo??
TJ: Sorry, but the last line made it more than a "making light of" Baqui's posts about EE. The "can't say I blame him part" brought out some personal feeling about UT academics. Of course, at a university so large, you're going to have some empty majors. All in all, it's awfully good for a public school though. Especially the law school . (Baqui99 style)
Of course, other than liberal arts, I can't think of one undregrad or grad sequence where UT is not in the top ten.
