glynch, I would relax. If that doesn't get him in, something is seriously, seriously wrong. Congratulations on having a smart kid! :)

My Freshman year I applied to both UT and TAMU and didn't get accepted to either so I ended up going to TCU for a year before I transfered out to come to College Station.

The top ten percent acceptance thing sucks. I am so happy they are going to change it, it's just not fair. (I spent two years of highschool in Tx, then the other two in Switzerland where I graduated highschool)

UH will take him with open arms :D

No, seriously, tell him to consider applying here. I also scored a 1450, and the school threw a ton of stuff at me - scholarships, honors college, and cheerleaders.

Good luck to your son, I wish I had gone to UT, I might be a happier person if I was living in Austin.

You should be considering Rice with that SAT score.

Also, if a state school doesn't consider someone with a 1450 worthy something is really wrong with the system

I know how you feel. I was 17% of my H.S. and I got in with a 1430 SAT to the Eng department. Some extra curriculer also helped I guess. VP of the chess club and state qualified debater. So I guess your son he should get in. My essay basically said "cut the bs, I want to come because I want a good job. You want we me to come and then donate money once I become alum, let's help each other out".

I'm guessing your math score was a few notches lower than that. ;)

My SAT score didn't get me into Rice...not that I'm disappointed by that.

glynch- Has your son taken any SAT IIs? They're not required, but having some solid SAT II scores will only enhance his app.

That SAT is plenty, but you also need a very high class rank to get into Rice - something like top 1 or 2 percent.

is this the new SAT he took or the old one? Not sure .. it might be next year that they start using the new SAT...

if so that could change the needed SAT score etc..

they need to make a university where the top .0001 percent from each school get in

imagine how difficult that would be!

DrewP if you have any questions about Tulane let me know, i go there now, I am transferring out after the semester though.... a little advice to all of yall that havnt made a decision on a college yet, do not go to a college strictly on its name, b/c that doesnt necesarrily mean you will be happy there, college is all about fit and well just make sure that you go where you can be happy

Yes, is awaiting the results of the SAT II's. No study or prep whatsoever. I'm not too hopeful. The night before he did sort of work on the math II test. I don't think UT requires them.

He took the old SAT. The new one is for this year's juniors.

If it wasn't for the damn 10% rule he might not even apply anywhere else.

Lnghrn4life, Tulane has been urging my son to apply. He is thinking about it, though he doesn't really like New Orleans that much. The ranking and reputation are attractive, though.

What don't you like about it? Of course, with your screen name are you sure that you are giving it a chance?

If you are a freshman, maybe in another few months you'll feel different.

Unfortuanately neither he nor I are too enamored with A& M which would be automatic.

Lnhr4life. I recently met two young women who are at U of H. One transferred from Tulane as she didn't like the party atmosphere and the "New Yorkers". Another was transferring from U of H to UCLA as her divorced father has residency there.
