So perhaps you might think it's semantics however I feel it's necessary to point out that there is a difference between a Public Statement and something said in public. Almost everything that bloggers are seizing on comes from when reporters are grilling Pac 12 officials. What you get is a vague attempt at appeasing some of those questions. A real public statement usually has some kind of formality and distribution behind it. That being said, I'm not going to argue if you think a public statement is a public statement even though I don't agree. All of this is a waste of time until there is actual news to discuss which I don't think we've had for quite a while. WTF though is up with the media overpayment? and bad accounting at the conference level? That's a story.
No I agree there is a difference. But school officials have been speaking rather candidly about the deal (or lack thereof). Some more than others and some directly contradicting one another. So this isn’t just bloggers trying to create instability IMO. The overpayment situation is definitely a story but emphasizes a bigger issue with the conference IMO. They just don’t have much wiggle room, if any. To me there is just too much at stake to take a “well a deal will get done at some point” point of view. I’m betting a number of member schools are thinking the same.
"A Big 12 source told me last week" Maybe it's true. Maybe it's another (of many) attempts of big 12 officials making public and off record comments about pac 12 instability. I don't know but the lesson I learned back with the Texas to the Pac 12 rumors is that conference officials **** around with reporters in order to further their interest. Again, I am not saying CU doesn't bolt for the big 12. I have no idea but I would still not bet on anything until everything until it all happens. Chip Brown had us living off every morsel of bullshit and all of these articles seem like more of the same. Colorado would be a great pickup for the big 12.
Just passing along the intel. Unnamed sources and whisper games are how this stuff always traffics. Trammel is a disinterested party and has a good reputation, FWIW.
Andrew Marchand from the Sports Business Journal (probably the gold standard in terms of reporting on this particular subject). Worth a listen.
That already happened back in April https://www.cbssports.com/college-f...t-competes-with-major-leagues-for-tv-dollars/
Talked with a guy last night who knows a thing or 2 who told me Colorado to the Big 12 is a thing and that you’re likely to hear very loud rumbles on that over the next few weeks. Also I heard from a guy at 31 Flavors that Ferris is really sick. (No but seriously the Colorado stuff is from someone I trust a lot)
I can only imagine the turmoil inside the power circles of Colorado right now. There's probably a lot of West coast alumni and a decent number of admins who like the association with the rich nerds.
These statements keep coming out... "we're proud pac members, but that is contingent on several things." lol
Heard the UConn talk may be to make Gonzaga feel more pressure. That the Big 12 has told Gonzaga they're only being offered a spot for hoops only...and Gonzaga is saying they'll walk if they can't put their other sports in as well. UConn keeps getting mentioned, and there's some thought that their mention may actually be more to put pressure on Gonzaga to realize there may only be one seat in the conference for a basketball addition. Again, I don't know anything directly from people making these decisions...
Can’t be overstated how effective Yormak has been so far. 24 months ago, things looked pretty bleak for those in the Big 12. Their aggression has been a breath of fresh air from my viewpoint as a Baylor and UH guy.
It sounds really suspect to say that Deion is involved in this. Let alone it's entirely at his discretion. Coaches, other than the lifers, have zero input on this stuff (justifiably so). The idea that this decision would be up to Deion is ridiculous.
