Ah...he did say he want to retire. Amnesty is like dead row. There is no life there. You're being send to hell. So players like Artest rather retire than going through it.
Under the new CBA, EVERY single team gets an MLE every year, regardless of their cap situation. But unlike the previous CBA, the value of the MLE changes depending on your cap situation. No, the Room exception IS the MLE. The full name for the "room exception" is the "Room Mid Level Exception (MLE)." There is no technically such thing as a "mini-mid level" anymore, though people still use that former term. There now 3 types of MLE, (they eliminated the term "mini-MLE", though the exception is still there). And EVERY team gets an MLE. 1) Non-Taxpayer Mid Level Exception. (what most people consider the full MLE) 2) Taxpayer Mid Level Exception. (used to be called the mini-MLE, but they've eliminated that term when they re-configured the MLE into 3 types.) 3) Room Mid Level Exception (Newly added in this CBA so that even teams under the cap, like the Rockets, get an MLE)
For the 2013-2014 season, the CBA specified values are: Non-Taxpayer MLE: $5.150 million Taxpayer MLE: $3.183 million Room MLE: $2.652 million
Morey will not use The Room Mid-Level Exception to sign a general player like Anthony Morrow; Maybe Morey will consider Billups or Brand, but he will hesitate to sign this guy now because the rosters are too jam, our young players will couldn't get playing time.
I just dont see it right now. Who in their right mind thinks that Wayne Ellington is worth the mid-level? Are people that desperate nowadays for someone who can make a 3 pointer? Id rather Morey save that cap space for absorbing salary in a trade at a later date, or save the roster spot for a bargain player they can pick up at some other point.
We need an Aussie to complete the United Nations. Nate Robinson is close enough. Friends/chemistry with Dwight, and instant offense for 2nd unit. Only worry is if he and Bev collide at full speed, might start a chain reaction and form a black hole.
Yeah, i got that. Hence the word "exception" when referring to the fact that you can sign players outside of your allotted cap space. Im referring to the fact that MLE contracts are going to have 3+ years in length, and Im not sure I want to be committed to a player like Wayne Ellington for 3+ years because of the roster flexibility Id like this team to keep for trades. I still think they have the assets to make another major trade for a 3rd all-star. You gotta think beyond just the salary cap this year.
I heard Orlando might be buying out Turkoglu. If he is bought out, I'd pick him up. He has a good relationship with Dwight last time I checked. I don't know how good of a friendship he has with Asik, but that might entice him to stay at least for a year. Turkoglu could do a lot of ball handling off the bench and on a good night can provide a much needed offensive spark off the bench. Lin/Bev/Canaan Harden/Garcia Parsons/Turkoglu/Casspi T-Jones/D-Mo/Smith Howard/Asik This lineup works for me. Granted Turkoglu has injury problems, but thats okay because Casspi is right behind him.
The Room MLE maxes out at 2 yrs, so you can't do a 3+ yrs contract with it. (Non-Taxpayer MLE maxes out at 4 yrs, Taxpayer MLE maxes out at 3 yrs, Room MLE maxes out at 2 yrs). Also, you're not required to put in the max years. You can use it for a 1 yr contract if you want, with no 2nd yr. Or for a 1 yr with unguaranteed 2nd yr or 2nd yr option (like what the Knicks did when they used their Room MLE to get JR Smith from China).
