Actually, those Chinese places are safer than most restaurants despite how disgusting they are in the back. Because it doesn't really matter what nasty stuff gets into the cooking when you heat it up to 5 billion degrees like Chinese restaurants always do. I'm not a fan of Chinese food myself so I don't eat it, but it's safe.

I've eaten a lot of chicken in China and have generally been ok. What bothers me more about this is the loophole to no label country of origin. People should be informed of where there food is coming from. Anyway more reason to buy and eat local

I wouldn't be too surprised if tit was cost effective, shipping across oceans is actually really cheap, because of the massive ships they use, and they do these trades on a massive scale, so it's not at all like how you or I would send stuff abroad in 1 packet.

It's not like you and I work in the food industry

If the USDA says so, why bother arguing

I believe it. Labor costs are much bigger than shipping costs.

The cost to move a ton of frozen goods to china might only be around a few hundred dollars if you are shipping an entire tanker of the stuff. For a ton of chicken. 2000lbs - a lb of chicken breast will sell for $3+ so you can see that if you are taking in $6k a ton and paying $500 for shipping and probably less for labor in China - it's not a bad deal. Paying American workers and factory cost is high enough to make it work.
