Whats your point? TO is on Sportcenter every single night and he's not even playing football anymore, what does that tell you? Sportscenter has become less and less about reporting news and more about narratives. They give people what they "want" to see and USC is a very popular team, but saying Texas just happens to be other undefeated team is a moronic statement all around. If we win the NC, are we in the same category as USC in terms of winning? According to you, probably not, since we almost lost the Kansas game a year and half ago, right? Exactly what does 15 minutes on Sports Center vs. a couple plays in the highlight clips say? Please tell me, I'm sure Pete Carroll and Leinart will tell you how important that is when they are on the field. Seriously, your posts are becoming more and more pointless. If you're gonna bash UT, at least try to make some constructive comments, rather than just "they only get highlight clips on ESPN."
I have watched both teams play, and I simply think UT is a LOT better. USC is amazingly quick, but their defense is very suspect. We are not talking about the USC of last year, or the previous year....this year's team is vulnerable, and should have lost to a mediocry Notre Dame team already this year. Lienert fumbled out of bounds saving their bacon. UT has beaten everyone handily.....with the sole exception being a very good Ohio State team. I just think UT is on a different plane.....they are the best team in football....and USC is only getting votes because of it's past 2 years....fair enough, it will be settled on the field... And, I will be happy to do a Sig bet with BigTexx heads up....if he is man enough. DD
I will accept a sig bet straight up under the condition that all of the tufkaswt t-shirt fans (RM95, Hakeem, etc) accept the bet as well.
I heard a couple of experts before the season started questioning if USC could repeat because of their defense. That is playing out. If you look at last year's game against OU, they not only ran up and down the field on them, they shut them down. Their offense gets so much hype that you don't realize how good their d was in previous seasons. You can talk about Vince's mistakes all you want, but he has usually made them against much better defenses than USC is playing this year. And even with that, he doesn't make many mistakes in the second halves of games so I wouldn't be too worried about that.
USC's defense may not be as good as OSU's, but they have all play makers on the defense that are capable of making big plays in crucial situation too. And once you make mistake, unlike OSU, they would have you paid big time. And Texas still make mistakes in big games. If Texas wins turnover battle, it may have chance to upset, if USC wins, game over.
Wow, I just came back from Southern California and everyone there is just as confident or even more confident that USC will beat Texas. And by the way, I was the MGM Grand this past weekend and the current line on the possible USC vs Texas game is USC by 6. Refund would be given if the game is not played ofcourse.
"Oh, mommy, I won't do a sig bet unless everyone else does too. Whaaaa! Whaaaa!" What a p***y. Why do you want to bet against the Messiah? Is it because he's black?
You mean the playmakers who allowed Fresno State, Notre Dame, and ASU to go up and down the field almost at will. 1/2 the USC defense is injured. Their playmakers are in the trainer's room.
USC's defense got badly exposed this past weekend. Fresno State's O-line is nowhere near as good as Scott, Studdard, Sendlein, Allen, and Blaylock. Paul Pinegar, while a fine QB, is not a Vince Young. Vince can and will carry this team on his shoulders to the National Championship this year. Billy Pittman is one of the most dangerous deep threats in the NCAA. Texas has the nation's top assistant coach in Gene Chizik. I'm sure he'll have pretty damn good game plan to slow down Bush and White. Not only that, but expect a variety of blitz packages from different areas such as safety blitz, CB blitz, and zone blitz. Cedric Griffin and Tarrell Brown might have some trouble covering Dwayne Jarrett and Steve Smith, as I expect those guys to make some plays.
Notre Dame mediocre? Are you on drugs? They have only lost 2 games this season - mediocre would be a team with 4 losses or so this season. Anyway, I'll do a sig bet with you - you taking Texas to win by at least 18 and me taking USC winning or Texas winning by less than 18.
Notre Dame's only decent win was over a #23 ranked Michigan team. They will go to the Fiesta Bowl and get the sh*t knocked out of them, like they do every year. They haven't won a bowl game since 1993, when they beat aggy in the Cotton Bowl. 2004 Insight Oregon State L 21-38 2002 Gator North Carolina State L 6-28 2000 Fiesta Oregon State L 9-41 1998 Gator Georgia Tech L 28-35 1997 Independence Louisiana State L 9-27 1995 Orange Florida State L 26-31 1994 Fiesta Colorado L 24-41 1993 Cotton Texas A&M W 24-21 1992 Cotton Texas A&M W 28-3 1991 Sugar Florida W 39-28 1990 Orange Colorado L 9-10 http://www.nationalchamps.net/NCAA/database/notredame_database.htm
What ND did in the past 10 bowl games have nothing to do with how good the current team is this year, if you have watched them play, you know they are a very good football team. They are extremely well coached ,always have tremendous quarter back plays and play hard every plays. I am not saying they deserve BCS but you certainly can not simply say they will lose the game based on their performance of last 10 years.
Spare me the history lesson - I am aware of Notre Dame's bowl struggles. They cannot control the fact that some of their opponents this season have had disappointing seasons (Michigan, Tennessee, Purdue, Syracuse, etc.) as they had contracts signed with these schools several years in advance. And I really think you (along with a lot of other people here) are selling Notre Dame short and this is coming from someone who absolutely despises that team. I'll do a sig bet with you that Notre Dame wins their bowl game if you are game. And as much as I would like to see Texas beat USC, I am starting to lean towards USC as the arrogance of some Texas fans is beginning to get comical. There's an old saying, "Act like you have been there before" - but I guess that is hard to do when it has been years since your team has played for a NC.
No, they can't control their schedule. All they can do is win out against a weak schedule. Oh wait, they lost 2 games. One to undefeated USC... and one to 5-6 Michigan State. Notre Dame is a good team, but their results this season do not justify their #6 poll rankings, over 9-2 Ohio State, 10-1 Oregon, or a host of other 2 loss schools. Is what Notre Dame accomplished this season really greater than that accomplished by Miami, Auburn, Georgia, or Alabama? Their name value and TV deal is what drives their poll results.
Watched them beat Nebraska in the '84 Orange Bowl 31-30 and started following them after that (I also liked Tennessee at that time). Of course when Miami played Tennessee in the '86 Sugar Bowl, I had a decision to make in who to root for. I was hoping for a close game but because Tennessee beat Miami so easily, I found myself only rooting for Miami and no longer for Tennessee. Why do you ask? I am hoping you are not going to tell me that because I didn't go to that school, I can't root for them because many people do that (including Texas fans).
Sammy, I don't disagree with a lot of what you said, but I still think that Notre Dame is a little better this season than they have been in the past - mainly because Weis appears to be the best coach they have had since Lou Holtz. Something inside of me is telling me not to bet against them in their bowl game.
