i think a slight majority thinks that USC will win, but this game is as close to a coin-flip as you can expect in a natl title game. in other related news .. is anyone absolutely disgusted by the whole espn comparing usc to the top college football teams in the past 50 years? is this what espn has stooped to? usc hasnt even finished their season yet and theyre claiming them as one of the best ever -- talk about unprofessional journalism. texas needs to stop the insanity USC against the greatest EVER
I've donated myself, I have no problem with it. As long as I can read Rockets news at peak times, or after games or during a big trade when the board gets flooded, I have no problems with those who do not donate. BTW, this is a message board, last I heard, not the welfare office.
I think the 2005 USC team is one of the greatest teams ever. So does ESPN, the voters on the ESPN polls and the sportsbooks. They have two heisman winners on their team and have won 35 straight games dating back to 2004 (with most of the same players from 04 with 1 extra year of experience). If Texas beats them, then Texas should definitely be considered to be one of the greatest college football teams ever. No doubt about it.
do you think espn will run the same segment -USC2005 +UT2005? I doubt it... I just dont see how you can prematurely claim USC as being one of the best ever when they havent finished their season
BTW, am I going to die if I reveal that I secretly want the Trojans to win because I find it funny when some of the UH/otherschoolwithanotsogreatfootballteam alumns who jump on the Longhorn bandwagon? Not saying they JUST jumped on the bandwagon, but plenty of non-UT fans I know have been all over UT's jock the past 5-6 years that I've known of (since before then no one I knew really gave a rats ass about college football). I'm going to die, aren't I? *runs* Then again, I'm sure the same can be said about USC though, since it happens with any "big" team (Yankees/Lakers/etc). Tell you the truth, I don't really have a preference in this game, which will make it that much more enjoyable, I'll be watching without any deep rooted interest in either team, so, whoever wins or loses, I still (hopefully) get a great game.
The odd thing is that I think most people think the 2004 USC team was better than the 2005 version. They had all the same offensive talent, with a far superior (top 10) defense.
USC has won arguably the last two national championships and is now playing for a 3rd. They have 2 Heisman trophy winners on their team. They have won 34 straight games. I don't think it's a stretch to consider them the best college football team of all time.
I believe the 05 USC defense is still better than most think. They shut down the UCLA offense when they needed to. If you had to choose a weakness of the 05 USC team it would be their defense, because everything else is so strong. Considering that, their defense is still better than most, IMO. Especially after watching that UCLA game where they stepped it up.
It's a stretch to consider any team the "greatest of all-time" if they didn't win the national championship that season. As of now, they haven't.
Why choose the UCLA game and not the Fresno State game or Notre Dame games, when they didn't step up? Especially Notre Dame, where the USC defense gave up the lead in the final minutes? The USC defense is certainly improving, but even the USC coaches say their defense is nowhere near as good as last year. They lost a lot of talent from last year's team.
from what i understand theyre only talking about the 2005 team, meaning the whole 34 win streak shouldnt matter. no doubt that the usc run over the past years classifies them as the greatest ever. but if were only talking about the 2005 team, then i say let them finish their season first. im not trying to argue that theyre not one of the greatest teams ever. if they beat UT then they definitely deserve all of this BUT THEY HAVE TO BEAT UT FIRST.
Passing attack - Advantage USC Rushing attack - Advantage USC Defense - Advantage Texas Special Teams - Advantage Texas Coaches - Advantage USC Intangibles: Something to prove - Advantage Vince Young/Texas Experience/familiarity/comfort - Advantage USC Texas defensive gameplan: Stop Leinart. Stop Bush. Stop White. Stop Jarrett. Outcoach Carroll. USC defensive gameplan: Stop Young. Texas offensive gameplan: Don't let Young get sacked/rushed. USC gameplan: Take your pick. USC vs. Texas: USC wins by a minimum of 10 points.
Exactly. The crap ESPN is running makes no mention of the past few years. It's about a team, and the team it is referring to is the 2005 USC team. These comparisons before their biggest game are only serving to put ESPN's nuts in a vice in case the Trojans lose. And oh how sweet it would be to see all those ESPN "experts" have to admit that maybe they got a bit overzealous talking about 2005 USC being amongst the best ever.
USC has the rushing advantage, although UT runs for more yards a game. USC has the offense advantage, although UT scores more points per game. UT has to stop Lendell White, but USC doesn't have to stop Charles or Taylor. UT has to stop Jarrett, but USC doesn't have to stop UT receivers. No, no bias at all here.
Major- There's always an argument to every argument. Honestly, no, I have no bias, as I'm a fan of winning money, and not either of these teams. I love stats, as much as the next guy, but I've been around long enough to know that they mean jack when it comes to successful capping. The intangibles that USC have over Texas will produce a convincing win. There's only one way that Texas can win SU, and that's if USC can't stop Vince combined with stopping the USC passing, running, and receiving fronts.
I like how the UT haters point to the A&M game to show why we will lose, but fail to mention that the only reason that USC is even in this game is because Reggie Bush cheated to beat Notre Dame.
Ok, if the line is really up to 8 then I'm considering making my first sports bet ever. Anybody reccomend a good site?
