The officials stunk. VY was down - they might have scored anyway, or might not have..... And they took an interception away at the end of the 2nd quarter that Texas clearly had....ground can't cause a fumble......and USC scored 3 pts after that. Bad calls on both sides of the ball....and the USC line was HOLDING all night, nary a call.... But what a game....what a game. DD
bad calls on both sides, only difference one of them directly resulted in a TD in a game that was decided by a FG. You'll have to forgive me for not being overwhelmed.
I'm no expert in NFL officiating, so I didn't know....but am I right that there was no holding call on either side all night. There was barely an off-side (I think I remember one). That has to be one of the least OL/DL penalty game in history.
you're right, I dont recall hearing much of OL/DL penalties. Both sides were holding (all linemen hold BTW).
Um..Dada's point was that USC also scored as a result of a bad call. A FG, but that gives Texas a 6 point win, instead of 3...minus the Texas TD from the missed call and it is a USC 1 point win, but add a FG for Texas had they at least scored that if the TD was taken away and UT wins....you can play this game all night
But since this is a Texas board we all know who will win the game in the end In all serisouness, it was a good game. Vince Young was stellar, I just think people are serisouly listening to way too much BSPN and letting the hype get to their head.
Congrats to Texas! (and let people complain about the call if they want... honestly, had the situation been reversed don't you think there would be pages of posts from UT fans about getting screwed?)
hype? all the hype was USC's. vince EARNED it. on the field. in the game. nearly 500 yards total offense against "THE GREATEST COLLEGE FOOTBALL TEAM OF ALL TIME!!!" making big plays when you have to have them. the guy has freaky athletic talent and incredible composure all at once. i've never seen a QB like that before.
Best game ever...I thought the UT-OSU game was the best, but man, this one had everything...Fans were nuts...Great game...VY is the man... However, the only reason I like USC is because of these girls...
yes and now you have those same commentators calling Vince the greatest college football player of all time, conveniently forgetting every other name from the past 50-100 years.
Texas Longhorns to Be on Wheaties Box The national champion Texas Longhorns are going to get their Wheaties. General Mills said it will produce a commemorative Wheaties box to mark the Longhorns' 41-38 win over Southern California in Wednesday night's Rose Bowl. The cereal box will feature Texas coach Mack Brown and a Texas Longhorns helmet on the front. The Longhorns box is scheduled to appear on Texas grocery shelves in two weeks and nationwide starting next month. General Mills said Texas is the first national college football champion to be featured on a Wheaties box since Nebraska in 1997, after coach Tom Osborne's Cornhuskers won a share of the national title. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060105/ap_on_sp_co_ne/fbc_texas_wheaties_box
Really? Who? All I recall is that they're saying its the greatest game or greatest performance.... not the greatest college player of all time. Only people I see calling him one of the greatest are fans here http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=103892
Hell of a game. Probably the best football game I have ever seen...certainly the greatest individual performance I have ever seen. It's a game like this that shows how much more valuable a guy like Vincent Young is over Reggie Bush. Even with Bush's ability to play as a receiver, return man and RB, you can game plan to neutralize him, if you have some fast DBs. But Vince, there is little you can do to stop him when he is really focused in like last night. Stack the line, he'll pass over you, hold back, he'll run by you. The guy has unbelievable poise and determination. Had Chris Simms had the kind of poise and leadership skills and sheer will to win that Vince has, Mack Brown would have already had a national championship. But that's neither here nor there. USC's offense really is that good. Even with Texas's good defense, they just have too many weapons to beat you in too many different ways. I can't fathom a defense that would be good enough to stop it on a consistent basis. But UT's offense is damn good too, and that was the difference last night. HOOK EM
After irrefutable video evidence, the officials on the field have been taken under the stadium and shot.
