Haha if you read the rankings then you'd realize that they are pretty darn accurate and while narrow minded people here have no respect, Fifa itself acknowledges Mexico's position in the soccer world. So then are to we ignore the soccer rankings of Fifa, the peope who are behind all the major world cups and what listen to your soccer rankings Puedlfor. That is all.
I wouldn't say that its great, but it is definitly getting better. We'll see what happens next season when they will likely lose a lot of star power to Europe in Donovan, Beasley and Convey. You do know that they can be bought, don't you?
The rankings are absolute bunk, FIFA deliberately gave extra ranking points for performance in the Gold Cup (I think that is what it's called), to encourage teams to participate. Looking at the CONCACAF group, which is given a difficulty multiplier of 0.94 (compared to Europe at 0.99, and South America at 1.00), there are hundreds of small teams to play against, and gain ranking points playing, for the likes of Mexico. No one in Europe gives the rankings much credibilty, with the Spanish so high, even given their talent for choking in the big games. England is far too high up that list too.
The American cups are great, why would you want to discredit them, Mexico participates, Brazil, Argentina and the likes. So you think Mexico should not get as much points for that last cup in which they defeated Brazil twice, by the score of 1-0, I believe it was in 2002. Honestly I think European soccer is too over hyped but thats just me.
What you are refering to is the Gold Cup in which teams from the CONCACAF region participate. South American teams only play in they recieve one of the two invitations, in 2003 Brazil and Columbia played, not Argentina, big difference. Copa Americana is a competition in which South American, not CONCACAF teams play. Also, remember that Brazil brought them U-23 team to the Gold Cup, not their National Team, so Mexico's 1-0 victories aren't that impressive.
European soccer is superior and if you watch the America Cup, teams like Brazil and Argentina don't usually send in their best troops (ie. Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldinho, etc.). I love mi Tri, but they have NO chance in the WC with our current team.
I personally wish they would stop inviting teams that aren't a part of CONCACAF to the Gold Cup. It is the championship of this region. Too bad if it is USA and Mexico in the finals every time. They are the best in the region. Costa Rica and Honduras aren't that far behind. There is simply no reason (other than an attempt at filling the stadiums) to invite South Korea, Brazil or Argentina. Just my 2 cents
